Cherokee Park Sarasota

For those who disdain the “cookie cutter” neighborhood, opting instead for a well-established area with charm, style, and character, Cherokee Park in Sarasota, Florida is a great option. The highly prized West of the Trail Sarasota neighborhood is just minutes from downtown and within walking distance to Sarasota Memorial, making the area a perfect location for many medical professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners, legal and other professionals.

One of Sarasota’s oldest neighborhoods, Cherokee Park exudes charm. As you walk down the sidewalks in this area, you’ll see mature oaks draping their limbs across the lawns, Spanish moss lending a lazy elegance. Bougainvillea drapes over white picket fences.  A Spanish Mediterranean home sits next to a beautiful bungalow, complete with wrap-around porch and a quaint garden. Stunning waterfront estates feature sweeping bay-front views, gracious lawns with mature oaks, tropical landscaping, boat dockage, and more.

Neighbors can meet up at the nearby Southside Village to enjoy fine or casual dining, or simply meet for a glass of wine or to enjoy several live music options.  Head a few minutes north to downtown where options abound for dining and entertainment, including the Sarasota Opera, Florida Studio Theater, or the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center—all professional venues offering world-class entertainment. The Ringling Museum is just a few miles north of downtown, along with the Asolo Rep, a regional professional theater housed in a reconstructed 18th century Scottish

With a history that dates back to the late 20s, Cherokee park is the perfect example of a charming, well-preserved “Old Florida” neighborhood. An exclusive lodge was once a draw to this community, and Lodge Drive still testifies to that long-past history. Other streets in this area in clued Old Oak Drive and Cherokee Drive, all hearkening back to a distant time in the early boom days of Sarasota’s development.  This west-of-the-trail Sarasota gem is prized for its historic and restored homes, for its “walkability,” its proximity to stellar schools, the hospital, downtown, Southside Village, and the beaches, and for its thoughtful planning and preservation.

Kimberly, thanks!  I love Chicago as well.  My sister lived in Lake Forest some time ago and I enjoyed our visits there.  I also have fond memories of fun on Rush St!
