The New Spouse: Why Do I Have to Attend the Closing?

Texas is a community property state. Even though the seller is the only person named on the mortgage, deed and sales contract a new spouse should be present at the closing. Why? Their signature will be required on the warranty deed which is the document that is used to transfer the ownership to the new buyer. By signing the deed they are acknowledging the transfer of ownership.

Good information. Married people need to sign paperwork down here as well, regardless.
