Columbus Builder Hired a Spammer?

Did a Columbus builder hire a spammer?

Columbus Builders YouTube community videoI know the Columbus, Ohio company as builders of homes and condominiums in Delaware and Franklin County, Ohio, but apparently they build apartments as well.  The central Ohio builder built an apartment complex which looks lovely in the video on Youtube... in county south-east of the market I work in (I work in northern Franklin County / southern Delaware County, primarily...)  let's just call the county in the spam comment a "neighboring" county.  The community is NOT in Franklin or Delaware County, it's not an area I work in.  The community is not single family resale real estate or new homes for sale. My post (online content, article... whatever you call it) that was spammed was about single family resale real estate in Franklin County, Ohio. I do NOT work with rentals (property management.)

Someone named "Mike" left a comment on a post about Franklin County, Ohio home sales:

"I would like to add to this article that there is a really nice, new apartment complex in_____ Ohio. It is called _____ Midtown. I reccommend checking it out!"

Mike

Did a Columbus builder hire a spammer? Why?

Included in the comment was a link to the central Ohio rental community in a neighboring county that the builder has recently completed, I guess.  I am NOT linking to the video here obviously.  Links in comments are "no follow" so I am not sure why spammers seem so intent on spamming.

"Mike's" comment was reported as spam and is now gone.

It's just not neighborly to comment spam.

Why spam content about another county?  Why spam content about another facet of real estate?

Is "Mike" an employee with spamming skills?

Is the spam comment a bored property manager trying to increase traffic at their physical site?  Is "Mike" a rogue property manager sitting there bored looking for traffic with access to the Internet who thought comment spamming could help traffic?

Someone trying to make the builder look like a spammer?

Perhaps the Columbus home builder did not hire someone to post spam comments.  Could be someone, let's just call him "Mike" be doing this "to" the builder for some reason?  I made the thumbnail of the video the spammer linked to in the comment tiny for a reason... I could not believe the company would resort to comment spamming for any reason.  Comment spamming is just not good business.

Did "Mike" comment spam to:

  • To make the builder look bad?

OR

  • To make the video look popular?cup of robots

There are better ways to promote videos or projects in my opinion than spamming.

Columbus builder's employee? Contractor?  Spambot?

Employee?  Contractor? Peon paid pennies to leave spam comments on the Internet to increase views of a video on YouTube?

Increased traffic

Comment spamming seems to have paid off, in views.  In the 12 hours from the time I saw the comment with a link and reported it to the time I had cooled off enough to leave a comment on the YouTube video the videos views increased about one half of a percent.*  At least two of the 15 views were me looking to see who left the comment spam on my content.  Makes me wonder where else "Mike" spammed for the Columbus builder or the builders community. The video had been up on Youtube for about a month.

I don't believe Mike is a bot.  The spam felt more real than spambot spam, more focused.  Mike's not a great speller which can be a clue spam is from spambot. Or someone who does not speak English.  Mike may not understand geography...  or the real estate business but I don't think he's a spambot.  The 'can I borrow a cup of robots'  image is courtesy of striatic on Flikr CC license.

I just don't believe a Columbus builder would be spamming on that level.

The post that the spam comment was left on was about the Franklin County, Ohio residential resale market, I can not believe spamming it could have any benefit to a central Ohio community or a Columbus builder.

Sounds like a Fiverr to me.

"Post your link on 100 sites for $5.00."

Oh, yeah.   To be clear.  It was NOT this Mike spamming your blog.  Must have been another Mike.

I hope not...  I mean the Fiverr.

I would NEVER think it was you.  I have gotten a couple of pieces of email  from a real estate brokerage that may or may not be related to the builder (common name in our market) and an email from the builder in the past week.  It is a little excessive.  I am not sure I have subscribed....  I want to know about local builders obviously but...

Stepping up their game?  Or I am just noticing because my post was spammed? I still would say this was just someone stupid named Mike but someone in a foreign country (Fiverr) might explain it.

I get a kick out of Fiverr, but never ever want a bazillion Fiverr back links.

If I was going to spam your blog with Fiverr stuff, it would look something like this...

Having a hired spammer or an employee-spammer-volunteer may become quite popular considering the ease and afordability.

is it the beginning of another guerilla "marketing"?
