Cardinal Nation and just about anyone who is a baseball fan mourns the death of one of its finest players.

STAN (THE MAN) MUSIAL passed away on Saturday at his home in Ladue, Mo., a St. Louis suburb.  He was 92.

He was a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game.  He spent is entire 22 year career in St. Louis, made the All Star Team 24 times, held numerous batting titles, he held 55 records when he retired in 1963! He had a career .331 battling avg. ,I doubt we will see that done by any current players! Truly one of the greatest to ever play the game!

I can't remember an opening day game that I went to where Stan was not in the opening day festivities. I don't think he missed any until 2012.  He will be missed by many Cardinal fans and any true fans of the game.

You often hear about the crowd being the extra man on a sports team. I believe during the many decades THE MAN has inspired the Cardinals and the City of St. Louis, long after he retired he has been an inspiration to the crowd!  The St.Louis Cardinals and fans like myself were truly blessed by his presence here!
