Things to do in Brevard, NC - Mountain Biking

It may be January, but it's not too soon to start making plans for a visit to Brevard, NC for the spring and summer months. There are tons of things to do in Brevard that time of year, especially if you are the "outdoorsy" type.  Brevard, NC and the area surrounding this small mountain town in western North Carolina is known for many wonderful things, like the waterfalls, the four moderate seasons, and that special feeling that you can only get from a small town, but in the last few years, it's also gained the attention and the respect of the mountain biking community, including Bike Magazine.

In 2011 the magazine brought riders and gear to the area to test out the newest mountain bikes for 2012. What they found were mountain bike trails for beginners as well as heart thumping endurance trails for the most seasoned riders. One of the most popular areas for mountain biking is DuPont State forest which straddles Transylvania and Henderson Counties and offers over 100 miles of trails. DuPont State forest also features some of the prettiest waterfalls around and they are all easily accessible by bike or by walking trail. In fact, according the the official website for the forest, the waterfalls in DuPont probably has more "falling water" per square mile than any public land in the Southeast.

Other nearby trail heads for mountain biking can be found in Pisgah National Forest which covers over 500,000 acres here in western North Carolina. Nantahala National Forest which stretches over nearly 1.4 million of southwestern NC, reaching from Pisgah Forest into nearby Tennessee and South Carolina and is the largest National Forest in North Carolina. This is where you'll find the Tsali trail with over 40 miles of trail loops. Tsali has been rated as the top 10 places to ride in the southeast.
