I have an addiction I would like to confess knowing I am in good company. I am addicted to tearing pages out of magazines no matter where I am...the doctors office, the dentist, any waiting room will do. I just have to have "it" and feel so lucky I stumbled upon the best plaster wall color, or the clever trick of the trade I rely on so much, or the to die for recipe that I will use for my next dinner party.

You all know what I am talking about...and these piles and piles of tear sheets are a source of pleasure as well as pressure. I categorize the food from the bedrooms and the Chinese from the French. I shuffle the folders and 3 ring binders often, renewing and refreshing my creative juices.

Thanks to the era of technology, I have been scanning my precious finds and saving/savoring each photo with cropping, lighter/darker, and so on...you get the picture! Since I am in the process of clearing/de-cluttering before the Chinese New Year February 7th, I have gathered my newest finds and prepare them for their final journey. Page after page are uploaded and glide to the floor spilling into colorful arrangements until I get the the last one. As I flip it over making sure it was not another great idea or desirable object overlooked, I found this astonishing ad for Corian tile...yes, I know, so what!

Read it and tell me what you think it means. (skip the small print)

Corian ad

Do you read it the same way I do? It sounds like they are talking directly to home stagers to me!

Well I am assuming they are talking about those granite overlays that slip right on over laminate counter tops. But that is just my opinion

For me they are talking directly to home stagers. Slipcovers are a staple for us and I thought it was very clever.

Heather - that too...the quicker and easier, the better for us! This company if forward thinking.

Andrew -  Are you getting any sunshine up there?

Funny, just replaced Corian in a kitchen with Granite. One reason I am certain our listing did not stack up to the comps!  It certainly was not the Staging! Slip covers would be great ;).

Sheron - why not carry a portable scanner with you - not only will you not have to tear out pages, you can classify the resulting .pdf in many ways.

Sheron -

I think they're saying - Replace it.

Timley - I was at a Staging Eval yesterday and the Realtor was talking about the "BAD" granite counter tops.  As you know, Granite is a no-no when it comes to GREEN enviroments.  I guess it spews radon, and is not eco-friendly.

Corian is the NEW Granite - Totally GREEN and Eco-Friendly.

Julea,

Can see the trending. Reverse thought process (Corian vrs. granite)

High end homes in the area....granite is still expected. Buyers are demanding it (for the moment). Next year it may be "bad"!  I do feel we may see builders turning to other material for tops. It's already happening. Not so much in our local market. Still waiting for stainless to be "out"! Love the new oil rubbed bronze appliances!

Gina,

I know it !  Same here too.  The US is a bit behind the times...

Me too on the new appliance colors.  I also love the glass door fronted ones too.

Gina and Julea - personally I would never specify this product unless it fit into a restriction of some sort. The marketing behind the slipcover speaks to me as 'they know what we do (stagers), will do, want to do, and it says budget! I think they know what they are doing too.

Karen - of course you do!

Has anyone priced out Corian vrs Granite? Unbelievably, it's all in the same ballpark!

Recently finished a project where I replaced Corian with granite. Supplier #1 happened to carry both. Corian was only $1-2 less per sq. than a mid range Granite. Not an awful lot when your talking about a large area.

Corian gets a bad wrap for being a cheap product. In retrospect, it's really not all that bad! Just a matter of preference. The likability is all consumer driven! With granite being choice for the moment.

Gina - granite can be too busy for some and that is a good reason to prefer other options. I myself am madly in love with concrete. See post.

Cute, and does this mean you have too much time on your hands right now?  Kidding, thanks for the great posts.

Sheron - for you, Julea and others, Avonite has a recycled product out - looks, feels and acts like Corian but is 40% post consumer material and comes in a variety of mixed colors.  I think they have 8 colors now and are adding 2 more this year.

Terrylynn - going through my tear sheets is my little guilty pleasure :)

Eva - what a HOT TIP! I checked out the Avonite site and they have awesome products. This post is taking a direction I hadn't planned but this is much better...thanks! Do you mind if I post about this product in the Eco-Green group?

Gina - that is good. Concrete is versatile in ways we cannot imagine. There are resins and glass and all sorts of materials they are mixing with it. Good luck

I love alternative counter tops. Granite is not always the best option - although its wonderful if the right type is chosen. Some houses I go into have spent money on granite and nothing else. I would rather they paint the cabinets and use a less expensive counter cover then busy granite with 40 year old cabinetry. It just makes it worse!

I took the ad as trying to hook consumers in to a less expensive product with the slip cover reference, as we all know that slip covers are cheaper then buying a new sofa or chair.  I opted for granite as opposed to Corian when buying for my own house and was also under the assumption that Corian was less expensive.  However, I do agree with Sheron that cement is great and I think that is the way I will go on my next home.  I saw it several years back when at a dinner party and could not believe it when the hostess said it was cement.

One of the cutest addictions out there! I can't get enough inspiration myself and find saving every home magazine since 1985 is what's working for me. Pritty sad but it helps me in those situations when I warp back to a 1980' decor!

That is so funny, Sheron!  Do you see "signs" about staging everywhere?  My husband says I do the same thing and that I turn every conversation into a plug for virtual assistants.  Perhaps it is the fact that we love what we do so much that we see it in everything we do!

Sandra - good point!

Dawna - 1985 is in right now (yet on it's way out again). Remember padded shoulders, padded furniture, padded anything?

Renae - quantum physics lives! It is so true that we can only see that which we know from where we stand!
