I had started in my Happy New Year blog to tell you about the wonderful time my family and I had at the North Richland Hills Night of Holiday Magic back on December 1.
You don’t have to live in North Richland Hills Tx to enjoy all that this city has to offer. This was a free event, canned goods were requested for entry. We saluted the lifesize Nutcrackers (one of my favorite ballets) and Oliver got to touch the firetrucks.
The event takes place at NRH2O on Mid-Cities Blvd in North Richland Hills TX. There are small vignettes to take photos in and lots of lights in the park itself, including a 50 foot Happy Holidays sign. We watched a puppeteer with his marionettes put on a show. They had a duck throw where you could chuck yellow rubber duckies into the wave pool to see how close you could get to landing them on a float.
We walked around and looked at all of the scenes of polar bears and moose, penguins and more that were lit up. We are season pass holders at NRH2O and go quite a bit during these Texas summers. Our son kept wanting to go down the slides he's used to from summer! In typical Texas fashion, this December night wasn’t very cold, but still too cold to be going in the water! We had to keep explaining that we couldn’t go down the slides or in the pool, that we would again when it was warmer.
Santa was there to hear the Christmas lists of little ones and get photos, but at the time we got there the line was a little long and we didn’t want to stand in it with a squirmy 2 year old. There was a train ride also. A large tentwas set up and there were tables of kids’ crafts to do. This was a paid event of only a few dollars to be able to do all of the crafts.
We kept smelling fresh made kettle corn and coffee, hot chocolate stands and typical carnival fare. Woodsmoke drifted throughout from the marshmallow roasting corral! You get a telescoping marshmallow fork and a marshmallow and can roast it over a firepit. Our son loves marshmallows, and of course what kid isn’t attracted to fire. We had a nice time watching other people leave theirs in for too long and lose them into the flames. They washed and sanitized each fork when you were done with them too.
As the sky grew darker we found a spot to sit and Tim Urban from American Idol fame came on stage to sing and announce the tree lighting. While waiting for the fireworks show to start we got fried snowballs, chocolate and honey in fried dough dusted with powdered sugar. They were pretty goodand disappeared quickly. We watched the Christmas tree light up the night and then the fireworks boomed. North Richland Hills TX does about 10 or so firework shows every year. Our son likes fireworks now that he’s a little older and is fascinated by them.
So there you have it and I hope you enjoyed hearing about yet another wonderful North Richland Hills community event. I hope that you will go next year also, because it is a lot of fun!
