Dog Days: Take Lots of Photographs

Dog Days – What Were They Thinking?

It doesn’t matter if you are taking photographs of a listing, a wedding, or your favorite pet; many of the pictures are not going to turn out.   That is why you should take a bunch of pictures from different angles.   The more photographs that you take, the better your chances of getting some really good pictures.

The following is an example of a photograph that I wish would have turned out better.

 Wet and Muddy Poodle

Sometimes, the pictures you take will contain unexpected surprises.    I normally do not take pictures of worms.

And then there are the pictures that make you wish that dogs could talk.

Cocker Spaniels

 What would they say?

Good luck with your photography.

Sincerely,

Digital has done a disservice to photography in making it so cheap and easy to take another photo that new photographers have the idea that if they take enough photos, they are bound to get a good one.  On the other hand, digital has done so much for photography by making it so cheap and easy to take another photo that new photographers can instantly get feedback from the photo they took and make improvements on the spot.  This helps photographers get better much more quickly, thereby advancing the art.

Great pictures, Sondra. I really like the first one. When I'm at a listing, I take between 50 and 70 pictures. I get a room from all angles. That way I have plenty of pictures to select from when I put the listing on the MLS and I can vary the pictures in other ways I market the property on the internet. Then you can also satisfy the customer that wants you to send them more pictures than what they are looking at online.

Sondra, you make a good point that many of our attempts when snapping that photo end up as bad shots. Growing up with 35 mm film I attempted a good picture on the first try. I still have the habit with digital of not taking too many with one scene. I like LOOKING at what I took immediately with digital. You can share faster with digital too, even bad or funny mistakes. That dog is asking if he can have that worm for lunch.

Thank you Mike

Lee, you make an OUTSTANDING point.  (Each of the photographs above were in my delete pile for obvious reasons.  But, the dog expressions captured my fancy for this post.)    It does not matter how many pictures that you take, quantity will not overcome bad lighting or blurry pictures, or spots on the lenses for instance.  Yet, as you said digital camera do provide an closer to instant form of feedback for the studious person that is trying to get better.    I'm still learning.  I may take a bunch of pictures one day, review them that night and go back the next day at a different time with different light and try again.

Debbie, I do a similar thing.  However, I have enough challenges with my photography that I may go back over a course of days trying to get the "perfect" outdoor shots.  It is nice to have the pictures of the little bathrooms, nondescript bedrooms plus much more for the customer requests.

Gary, the film cameras where expensive to try to learn on. lol  the problem that I have is that my eyes are getting so bad that a picture that may look good on that little digital camera screen doesn't look to good on the computer screen.   Lol about the worm comment.

Sondra-A unique array of photos there and I understand about the eyes and the picture looking good on the little screen but not always ending up being a good pic. I will be doing LOTS of practicing this spring when all the bulbs come up. A lot of mine are blurry so I will be practicing with the settings.

Good advice for photographers.  Editing also helps.  Every photograph can be improved with a little editing.  I use the free service of iPiccy.com for editing.

Have an outstanding week.  Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the special moments.
