I preface this with apologies because this Quarryville Realtor has been too busy to post blogs recently. However, this posting is one that I feel I need to do. Quarryville Lions President Joanne Black has chosen a new service project for her group. They've decided to rehabilitate the Veteran's Memorial at Legion Memorial Park off route 472 in Quarryville Pennsylvania.
After receiving approval from the borough in October 2012, the club hired a company to do the work. The actual work is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2013. The cost of re-pointing and restoring the monument is estimated to be $6,000. American Legion Post 603 and VFW Post 3575 have contributed two thirds of the funds, but the club is accepting additional donations.
The club would also like to expand the memorial. Currently there are plaques with the names of service men and women from Southern Lancaster County who died in World War I and World War II. The club hopes to install benches along the driveway leading into the park with each bench representing one of the conflicts that the United States has been involved. At a cost of between $700 and $800 per bench the club is hoping that members of the community will agree to sponsor the benches purchase and installation.
