Why look and not pursue?

By
Home Stager with Home Star Staging

That was the one sentence from an anonymous note I received from someone (I never found out who) my first year in college.

While I found the note intriguing it was also very frustrating because I had no idea who it came from and if it meant I was looking at "them" or they were looking at and interested in me. I have to admit it was also a tad bit creepy...

Eyes

The same sentence can be applied to "looking" in the 'Rain and any other social network sites you're on whether it be Facebook, twitter, LinkedinGoogle+ or the host of others you may enjoy surfing.

While it's great to read other's blogs, posts and tweets it's even better to engage your audience on those sites to fully benefit from the experience.

We can sit for hours at our computer screens or smart phones and while we think we're "interacting" by reading, the real experience is in the connecting!

I've made fabulous friends and can quantify business from my interactions as a home stager here on Active Rain as well as other social network sites. Careers have changed, businesses have been formed and associations like RESA have grown with these connections.

So why look and not pursue?

Jump in and get your feet wet!

Great point, Karen!  Lurking itself doesn't bring true interaction with others, which is the point of social media.  It only makes sense to jump in and start a dialogue!  As you said, there are so many opportunities that began right here in the Rain!

Interesting....that would drive me crazy not knowing where it came from.  You've used it for an inspirational message here, but I would still love to know what the sender intended when they left it for you.

Thank you for reading, commenting and suggesting this post Bryan & Curtis! Here's looking back at ya!

I only recently thought about it again Teral but even after all these years it still intrigues me!

So many opportunities and relationships Maureen, including our own!

You and me both Sharon! I probably still have the note somewhere in a box of memorabilia somewhere too.

You bring up a good point, Karen. I sometimes look at posts without commenting, so I guess I am "lurking"--Haha. I'll make it a habit to comment more often.

Good point Karen... it's so much more rewarding to engage in conversation. I know I value all the folks here on AR and on Linkedin too. We really help each other and the exchange of ideas is invaluable. I'm looking forward to the day when I can meet everyone in person as it seems as if I already know them. So if you're holding back...jump in!

Hi Karen, lurking sounds creepy, but I learn loads that way. Blogging about you know helps give back and I will try to do that more.

Good point, Karen. No time for just hanging around and not jumping in - AR has been so beneficial. Just wish I had more time to participate!
