There is something warm and inviting about a wood burning fireplace or wood stove, but as winter continues to grasp much of the country it it's icy grip, please be careful.  Here in the Cedar City area chimney fires are way down this year but they still happen.  Please remember to clean your fireplace and wood stove as often as it is recommended.

This is advice to to tell your sellers also.  No one wants to buy a house that has been on fire.  In our state it is something that by law has to be disclosed if there is prior knowledge.  More importantly keep your families safe.  It seems that each year we read or see a tragedy of someone perishing from house fire, smoke inhilation, or carbon monoxide poisoning.  These are too great of a price not to do the maintenence required to keep woodburning appliances operating safely.

We hope that everyone will enjoy their wood burning fireplaces and stoves, we know, there is nothing quite like them for that comfortable, old home feeling, especially on cold days.  More importantly, we hope that everyone can enjoy them safely for a very long time.  Please be safe!

Tony,

Thanks for the advice. A few years ago I was driving down the road and saw a chimney on fire. Homeowner was not there but I stopped and got out their water hose and put out their fire. They came home in the middle of putting it out and they were very appreciative.

Hi Tony & Darcy,  Great info.  Here in Florida we don not use our fireplaces as much but still need to keep safe.  Last summer squirrels nested in ours and it was a big mess to clean it out again.

Mike, it was good that you were passing by and paying attention.  I am sure that the homeowners would be appreciative.  Jackie, another hazard is if the squirrels die, they don't smell good.
