It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.
----Eleanor Roosevelt
In Colorado and many othe parts of the United States, we are in the middle of winter. Everything is brown and many of us are looking forward to spring. So, the last couple of weeks I've been on a mission. I've been trying to take photographs of attractive winter gardens and landscapes that I will be sharing in an upcoming post. If I can figure this out, then I can better advise people how to improve winter curb appeal.
The dried coneflowers captivated my attention almost as much in January as the did last June.
The garden must first be prepared in the soul first
or else it will not flourish.
- Proverb from England
This is what the plants above looked like last June.
Without going into too much detail in this post, I'm starting to realize that an attractive winter garden takes a lot of initial planning. However, if someone plans for a beautiful winter garden, the "fruits" of this planning is much more enduring than the planning that goes into a spring garden.
Texture and foliage keep a garden interesting through the season. Flowers are just moments of gratification.

I'll be sharing much more about this in another post or two in the near future. For tonight, I'm trying to make sure the 60 pound "puppy" that I adopted is getting settled in. She's already decided that the decorative vanilla scented candles on my coffee table are irresistible.
