WARNING: The pictures at the very bottom are not put there to scare you into a back button pushing frenzie. If you continue to read, I promise there will be something to learn when writing your blogs.

This is a story of a blog that has found revivification through Google-ation and it was up to me to pull it together and give it some rejuvenation.

What am I talking about you say?  Well, let’s start by going back just a bit.

It was August 25th, 2007, the day had been filled with beauty, gratitude and me, Recovering From a Heart Attack After this wonderful experience (yes it was wonderful) I drove home :::75 mph:::  with excitement to sit down with my laptop and write a blog about what had occurred that day.  Word by word, my story was written from the heart and picture by picture all the feelings from that day came back even stronger.  Then the comments came in and… God was pouring out His words through each and every voice that reached out to me.

Wait, wait! Please don’t leave yet, I really do have a point and that point isn’t to share the entire story with you. Hang in there with me my friends.

The blog post was titled Recovering From a Heart Attack.

Now I must confess, I didn’t post a lot of blogs at that time, mostly read others and commented a lot.  I joined ActiveRain on May 10, 2007 and my First Post was on May 29th, 2007.  I have learned so much since then. Such as:

Fast Forward to today, January 31st, 2008.  See that cute little My Blog Log Widget over there?  Yeah, well that fun little widget is FREE and comes with a site stats button so that you can see how many people have been visiting your blog, where they came from and what links they clicked.  Pretty cool, huh?

So today I checked to see how effective my blog is and what did I find to my complete surprise? Somebody had Googled “am I too young to have a heart attack”.  Hmmm, I thought. What blog have I written that would be connected to a question like that?  So I click to find my blog Recovering From a Heart Attack, 9th down on the 1st page.  That was pretty darn exciting to see.

Then I clicked on my blog post and to my surprise found a whole lot of white space, photos scattered all about, text every which way and 'very loose', and some fabulous comments at the end.

That’s when my mind started going in all directions imaginable and I finally came to the conclusion that I must add some creativity to this post. Just like a  house needs home staging, a woman needs a make over, a room needs remodeling and some hair needs a do over~my blog it too, needed some rejuvenating.

The pictures at bottom are the before and if you haven’t clicked already check out the after.  My thought is, if that post is still getting read, it’s well worth my time to invest a little time into making it look better.

So if your blog is singing "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" Check out the above links and work some magic.

Howdy Julie

You have done another out standing blog post. I did my first blog on 1 June 2007, but did not post it in any groups. When I first joined Active Rain, I started thinking what are you doing. Then I started reading just like you did. Learning from very fine blog writers as yourself.  I had never thought of doing a makeover of older blog posts. I'll have to go back to some of my frist ones when I was starting out on AR. I had never written a blog before joining the AR community.

So I would like to thank you for helping this old cowboy to learn how to blog.

Have a good one

Dale

Julie, I had no idea posts needed "updating."  Or when I'll find the time to look into it but I certainly will try.  I have to agree with you, the "googlejuice" is certainly amazing!

Julie,  Love mybloglog.  It took me a while to get there, but it's a great tool to know where they're coming from and if they are clicking through.

Julie, Thesa is right!  I am just starting an outside blog and I am rejuvenating some of my old blogs and they are so boring; mainly because there are not any pictures.  The content wasn't bad but the pictures really make a difference.

So Julie are you saying have off the wall titles for your blog topic to come up with the highest rankings on Google or to get the most hits? Very cool stuff you have uncovered here.

Julie, isn't it cool just how far we have come since we first started on AR? I did go back and tweak some of my older posts that were seeing lots of action. I know so much more now! Nice post!

Katerina: That is quite a coincidence. I'm glad you will posting the follow up and I can't wait to read it. Thank YOU for stopping by to lend your support.

Sally: Anyway I can possibly help, I will in a heartbeat. I remember that beginning all too well and how lost I was. It's kind of like being a new agent and floundering about until you find your way. I don't like to flounder for more than a second.  Big hugs to you!

Bill: The faces are beautiful indeed, but like you said, the information hiding behind those pictures are very valuable. Thank YOU for your wonderful comment.

Jennifer: That was an eye opener for sure. So I do think that making a visit to an old blog every once in a while is wise.  Also because you want to make sure your links are up and running too. Thank YOU for you comment my friend.

Christine: I hear ya, those widgets serve so many purposes and they definitely help us to know where we're being found. Thank YOU for your great comment.

Grace: You have become the Queen of Slide Shows.  You do a fantastic job on them, so I can definitely see why your clients enjoy them so much. Thank YOU for your comment.

Dale: Wow! June 1st is my birthday, so you picked a fun day to post your 1st blog. You are so very kind and I love to see your comments each time you stop by.  Thank YOU for your sincerity my friend.

Carole: Oh yes, I hear you completely. I wouldn't be able to make it a common practice to revisit, but from now on, when I do see an old one pop up on mybloglog, I will revisit to make sure it's functioning properly.  Thank YOU for your caring comments and friendship.

Marc: Thank YOU for stopping by to comment. I think I found it on somebody else's blog and clicked and then joined. I love seeing how many visits have been made and from where.  Are you subscribed to the advanced version?

Kathy: You are killing me again. My agenda? I have myself on a pretty strict schedule, but when I see something that needs attention right away, boy it gets it. I have to admit though, Wednesday felt like a day of pure blogging. I was determined to get some things done. Thank you for your support and wait, I think I forgot to pick up my boys from school. They've been there for 2 days now. LOL.

Joan: Fabulous! Thank YOU for taking the time to check out the links. Did you find them to be helpful? There are tons more that I could have added, but that would make for a very long post. Have a great night!

Thesa: You are so sweet! Thank YOU for your kind comment. I remember in the beginning having the hardest time figuring out how to place the photos properly. Sheeew! Am I glad that I figured that one out.

Marchel: That is fantastic that you are getting an outside blog going.  Who are you using? I just signed up for a WordPress blog and I'm so excited to get moving on that. Please let me know when you get yours ready, I'd love to stop by for a visit. Thank YOU for you kind comment!

Gary: Yeah! Isn't that odd? I've actually found that on a couple of my posts now.  Very interesting. Thank YOU for your support my friend.

Krista: You are so welcome! I hope that this all helps you in your blogging ventures. Enjoy your weekend!

Ginger: You really are catching up. I love it! I really appreciate your support and I hope that all these tools help you out. I'm thinking you have a lot of it figured out though.

Lizette: Oh yes! It's incredible what we can find by making a visit every once in a while. Thank YOU for stopping by.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the great post. I'm relatively new to AR, so it's great to find blogs like yours that I can learn so much from.

Unrelated, I am a retired Army guy, and really appreciate all of your kind words throughout your blogs for those Air Force folks. Thanks for being such a great advocate for the service men and women.

Julie, Defintiely bookmarking this one, but first, can you explain the widget thing that shows the site stats. I could not tell what you were referring to. I am still not as good at blogging as I would like to be, so I probably have more "Members Only" blogs than I should, but eventually I hope to put more blogs out there and would love to track the visitors. Thanks
