Blogging Boot Camp 2: Keywords, Keyword Phrases and Subject Matter

In the second class for 2013 of Blogging Boot Camp, Bob Stewart gave another great presentation on blogging fundamentals and unlocking the secrets of keywords, keyword phrases and subject matter. Here is a brief summary of some of the things he covered....

1. Keywords: Will anyone ever search for what I am writing about? If you want them to find your post, you must use keywords that people commonly use in their search. Blogging titles and subject matter should have keywords that search engines commonly target which are used to rank your SEO (search engine optimizer).

2. Keyword Phrases:  When choosing a title or heading, it is more beneficial to use a long tail keyword phrase to optimize your ranking. For example: keyword headings like "Eastvale Real estate" versus the advantages of the long tale keyword phrases like “Real Estate Townhomes for Sale in Eastvale Under $275,000”, or “VA Homes Available in the Inland Empire". The order of words does not matter but the keywords should be at the beginning of your keyword phrase. The more adjectives used to describe your heading, the more likely and easier it will be for someone to find and locate your blog.

Names of builders can also be used as keywords to describe your headings. An example would be to use the following heading: KB Homes builds new 4 bedroom house in Eastvale CA. One should try to use Google ad words and utilize keywords in their headings that will help them rank higher in SEO.

3. Subject Matter:  Keywords should be used in the front of the title and within the first 70 words of the subject matter. This will most likely give you a higher SEO ranking and provide you with a professional look that is easier to read.

As you generate leads, contacts and questions from your blogs, connect and respond through a blog instead of the typical email; but always make sure to link your original blog to the subject matter blog in question. This way you present yourself as the expert of the subject.
