Rose King wrote an excellent localism post about one of my passions.  Helping animals in need.  So great to see that her community is supporting the animal control facility.  This will definitely help more pets find homes.  Please leave your comments on Rose King's post.  She deserves your comments!

Friendswood Animal AdvocatesA special group of animal lovers in Friendswood has been instrumental in providing services to lost or abandoned pets that end up at the Friendswood animal control facility.

This group, Friendswood Animal Advocates, provides animals with medical attention when needed, and promotes animals that are available for adoption. They also furnish pet owners with cat/dog food, provide funds for pet sterilization, and support mandated animal control policies that will save animals’ lives.

The Friendswood Animal Advocates was instrumental in pushing the city to build a much-needed new animal control facility. This new building has a larger capacity than the old building, with enough room for 30 dog kennels and 40 cat cages. There is also an adoption room where residents can find adoptable pets.

Adoptable pets at the animal control facility are advertised on the city website and on the website for the Friendswood Animal Advocates. The city does the best they can to find homes for the pets that end up at the animal control facility, but sadly, some never find homes.

Friendswood Animal Advocates is working hard to support the Animal Control Department with funds and volunteers, in hopes that the center will one day be a no-kill center.

The new animal control building is located at 3000 W. Parkwood Avenue, between the Friendswood Sports Park and the water tower. Operating hours are Mondays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The facility is closed on Sundays.

If you are thinking of adopting a pet, please visit the Friendswood animal control facility. Maybe you will find the perfect cat or dog for your family!

The picture in this post is of Georgie, our Min-Pin, who was adopted from an animal rescue group.
