Kathy,

"Get to know the Everglades." Make sure you have the same number of people coming out, as went in. Great natural resource you have down there. Protect it now for future generations.

Oh how I love the Everglades and would love to go to this activity-I remember going down the everglades with a guide in a small boat and appreciating the mangroves and wildlife and I'm grateful that they are a protected ecosystem!

You know Kathy...for all my years spent in South Florida going to school...I never had any desire to go to the Everglades...maybe my fear of gators? lol

Sally & David- We do have the weather for it.  There's a short video of the "River of Grass" - the Everglades.

Dorie- the developers have developed as close to the Everglades that was allowable.  Pretty darn close!

BarbaraT- the short answer is YES!  If the water is low, they can very easily be found inside your screened in pool area and they have shown up at your front door as well.  Many homes back up to canals or small man made ponds or lakes.  And.. many families have lost small dogs.... yep!

Carol- it's fascinating to learn about it and I'm glad the state and federal government  have been more proactive.

Bobbie- the schools take advantage of the programs that our parks offer about the Everglades.

BARFF- planning on it... there's also the Garlic festival that weekend too.

Kim- I knew nothing about the Everglades until I moved here.  Now a big concern is the Burmese Python.

Richard- LOL- we'll count heads.  Years ago developers introduced the melaleuca tree to remove the water in the Everglades, which worked so well that they dried it up and they aren't easy to get rid of.

Karen- come on down.. the weather is just gorgeous.

Joanna- I bet that was a memorable trip and I'd bet you saw an alligator or two.

Kristin- it really is something everyone should do... we all benefit from it.

Jeffrey-I'm petrified of them but I'm also scared of snakes.  You just have to assume that if you see a body of fresh or brackish water the chances are high that an alligator is in it.

Kathiy,

This is something I would definitely love to do.  It would be fun to explore the Everglades, I have heard so much about it and have always wanted to do that.  Wishing you a great week. A

Kathy,  I just love wildlife.  I'm all for healthy everything.  I'm surprised the alligators don't eat those birds!  It seems odd to me to see them so close to each other.

Kathy, What a wonderful opportunity to really get to know the mystery of the Everglades. I remember as a little girl living in Miami the word was if you got lost in the Everglades you would starve or get eaten by alligators or was it crocodiles? I can never keep them straight.

Alexandra- Larry and a friend actually spent about 12 days on a wilderness trip in Everglades park about 2 years ago.  They had to take everything they needed in their kayak.  He saw crocodiles and alligators.

Richard & Beth- I don't want to rub it in but we are having simply gorgeous weather now... and warm!

John- definitely going to try to make this one.

Nancy- it really is too bad but the early Florida settlers didn't realize the impact we had on the environment.  The move now is to try to get the River of Grass back to what it was.

Rebecca- I've been out to Arthur R Marshall and the walk by the nature center is so pretty and it isn't that long.

Janice- you guys up north must really be cold because everyone keeps mentioning "warm".  I can only hope that egret knows the gator is there.  Sometimes I wonder.

Kathleen- I've seen a gator "play" with a turtle only to let it go.

Debbie- I can never keep them straight either but we tend to have alligators but there are crocs down in Everglades Nat'l Park.  I think you can tell the difference by the snout but I'm not getting close enough to look!
