Orange County Buyers Beware of Agents that are NOT REALTORS!

jpegIn this changing market that experienced REALTORS like to call a BUYER'S MARKET, there are many pitfalls to watch out for. When choosing an Real Estate Agent to represent you in a transaction, it is in your best interest to choose a licensed, professional REALTOR. The difference between a REALTOR and just someone that has a real estate licenced is vast!

A REALTOR is a member of and  subscribes to a code of ethics that are acknowledged by the California Association or Realtors and the National Association of REALTORS.This means that you will get the most fair and honest dealing with your agent or else they have governing bodies that will reprimand them and or take their membership away.

Additionally if your agent  belongs to their Local Association of REALTORS, CAR and NAR you know they take their business seriously and they are not just in it for the quick buck! These groups are for professionals that want to network throughout the nation and lobby  in congress for Real Estate  Laws for Buyers and Sellers.

If your current agent is making excuses for not being able to look up listings or can't access a lock box that's a red flag that they may not currently be a member of these professional groups and therefore are NOT a REALTOR.

Choose an agent that will represent you in an professional manner, choose a REALTOR.

This is a good point you make here. There are alot of agents in my area as well that are not Realtors.

Tina,

I agree 100%.....being part of all the Associations shows your commitment to Ethical practice......however not always the case......

REALTORS®, when seeking to become a buyer/tenant representative, shall not mislead buyers or tenants as to savings or other benefits that might be realized through use of the REALTOR®'s services.

There are many good, professional, and ethical real estate licensees who do not belong to our organization. I don't think REALTOR membership should be used to measure the professionalism or integrity of a licensee, nor should it be used to measure the ability of the licensee to serve their clients.

Hi Tina,

Wish I could agree with the above commentor, although obviously that does not mean to say all who are licensees and not REALTORS will not do a professional job with intergrity.

However....A liscensee can cleary do things which are legal and that is acceptable under the law. Yet not all things which are completely legal are also ethical. There is a difference. I've seen this many times as an Arbitrator and Mediator for our Association of Realtors.
