Old Uncle Bob, gets a lot of work all over the country... he must work cheap or he has a lot of Nieces and Nephews! Almost all the Home Inspectors that post here on Active Rain see his work. I saw some of his handy work yesterday. It was a vacant house, when I got there I checked to make sure the utilities were on. They were, so I cranked down the A/C unit(it's been in the low 80's here lately) and started my inspection. I like to start on the exterior first, so by the time I got inside I hear this gurgling sound echoing throughout the house. My keen sense of hearing directs me to the laundry room. The laundry tub drain is gurgling like crazy!
I kneel down and I notice there's a pipe coming into the drain from the wall next to it. So I go around the corner to see where the pipe is coming from and Viola!
There is an air handler in the closet and good old Uncle Bob has plumbed the condensate line from the air handler to the laundry tub drain line. It is dripping into the drain and into the water in the trap and gurgling out little by little.
Nice. So how did these poor people that used to live there handle hearing all that gurgling sound when they were running their air conditioning? Easy, put the plug in the bottom of the laundry tub and it gets waaay more quiet!
Folks, if you have an Uncle Bob in your family and he will work for food... at least ASK him if he knows what he's doing!
