For just a minimum of $50, you can participate in the coolest event of 2013 — the Polar Plunge. Not only will you brave the cold waters, but you'll have the opportunity to earn incentives, party with friends, and support Special Olympics.

The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and basically anyone to support individuals with intellectual disabilities by jumping (or pretending to jump) into the chilly waters at Big Bear Lake.

A few hundred people are expected to weather the cold and plunge into 36 degree waters to support Special Olympics athletes on March 9, 2013.

  • Each participant who raises a minimum of $50 gets a T-shirt and can enjoy the festivities (either by taking the plunge or watching from the "Chicken Coop"). Raise more than $50, and you will have the opportunity to earn prizes. Register today

What a fun way to make money for charity. Thing is whenever I think California I think hot and sunny. Shows my naivety guess.

Hi Joel,

Most of the time it is sunny and warm but up in the mountains especially high up in Big Bear it is chilly in the winter time. In the summer, you can swim in the lake and run around in shorts and tanks but right now it is coooooooooold. So your thoughts of sunny and warm are 90% correct.

Hi Than,

They have a special category for "chickens" where you register, stand by and cheer and have a good time but just don't go into the water. I am a Proud Chicken.
