Do You Feel Like You Get So Much Info that You Have No Idea What You Know?

The other day I was chatting with a friend and she mentioned some news (good news) overloadabout a public figure.   When she asked me if I knew... I honestly couldn’t remember if I knew or not and if I did know, how did I know.

I didn’t have a clue!

Yes, yes... senior moment.  I know.  But.... think about it.  We are privy to so much information today from our traditional sources like ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX news and the 24/7 news channels that provide news content for you whether you want it or not.

Could I have found this information on Facebook?  Was it Tweeted to me?  Could someone have Linked(me)In?  Was it Plussed (+) on Google?   Did anyone I know Blog about it??   Could it have been Pinned or RePinned on Pinterest??

Sometimes it’s just too much...and I long for the days when we got our news once in the morning, lunch, dinner and before bedtime.  And if we learned of something about a friend it was via the phone, letter or in person.......fortunately that lasts about 10 minutes and I’m back to being the news hog that I am.

And you?  Do you like the 24/7 infinite number of

sources for you information?

Sometimes it's all too much!  I mostly stay away from the TV news, since the reporting is so skewed and there is too much negativity.  I haven't figured out the tweet thing or spent much time on linkedin yet.

I have to tell you that I am so grateful for my facebook friends that post the local weather on facebook (SNOOOWWWW, It's raining out there, etc.), just in case I can't find a window to see for myself!

Oh, Kathy -- there definitely seems to be information overload and it's often conflicting.

Kathy - wow, do I get it! So many facts, stories, news, gossip and junk news, who can remember half of it? I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who can't keep all this "stuff" lock in my memory - much of it goes in and out unless it's truly important!

Kathy,

Some of us do not turn on news on TV, do not get a paper, etc.  We just have a WSJ feed and other feeds regarding our field and the subject of luxury.  It is not necessarily a "senior" moment, it is sensory overload..LOL A

For some of us, senior moments may be very common.  All of us are flooded with information and much of what we see and hear quickly becomes uninteresting past history.

Joanna- many thanks for suggesting and reblogging.   I like having access to information and knowing what's going on but sometimes you have to turn it off and just pick up a book.

BARFF- I agree.  If it's really important, I'll find out whether or not I read it now or 4 hours from now.

Toni-did you ever feel like the apps and tech are controlling us instead of the other way around?

I am at almost any moment of the day in a total fog.  My kids will sometimes be talking about some actor and I'll say who's that.  They are horrified at how not on top of things I am.

Gosh Kathy, I thought I might be the only one who is on information overload.  I think I liked it when it was simple.  Now I just feel bombarded!

I agree Kathy,

I hear info in the office, on the news, internet, social media sites, blogging sites and blurbs on TV too but I try to tune it out as I have more important things to deal with so when someone starts talking about it, I think to myself "Oh Yes" but couldn't for sure remember where I heard it.

Kristin-Google has become a verb in my life.

Kwee- I sometimes get paranoid about trying to read all of the news items.

Bridget- I love Diane Sawyer on ABC but I have a feeling that the news journalists that we new are a thing of the past.

Michael- What I really don't like when the local stations say "Now, news that only our network has" and every news clip is "Breaking News."

Janis- now that's a thought.  Spontaneous combustion!

Kristine- you said it.  I can't remember if I heard something or just think I heard it.

John-I think that's what's happening.  People just don't pay attention because they know they can find it on the Internet if they need to.

Rebecca- that's not a bad idea.  I'll turn on ESPN, the History Channel or NatGeo.

Alexandra-whew! That sounds so much better than senior moment.  I don't really listen to the local news anymore except for the weather.

Roy-you make a good point.  Things happen so quickly and we receive so much information that you're right... it becomes history.

Liz- several years ago my husband and I decided to watch MTV on occasion just to keep up.

Donna- right.. remember watching the evening news and that was it.

Kristin- Have you tried reading your local news channel's website.  Your eyes bounce all over the page.

Kevin- I may change my email address again just to get away from all of the alerts and news feeds.

Morning Kathy we are so bombarded by different takes on the same subject it is all in how the news is presented and who is presenting it.  In my neck of the woods (Republican) we get the same news just a different take and the same thing for the (Democrats).

Kathy-I am quite the opposite. I don't watch the news or read the paper. Somehow if it is bad enough I still find out about it. Our brains can only absorb just so much before we go a little cuckoo

I schedule time to read specific resources. Lucky for me I can read fairly quickly and have learned how to save relevant articles. We must be vigilant on what we decide to read and save for reading later.

It is definitely the new strategy by many who want to confuse us not inform us.  Too much and all of a sudden finding the truth no less daunting than the proverbial 'needle in a haystack'.  m
