There are an increasing number of photo editing programs with a wide range of capability, complexity and price. Photoshop (expensive) and GIMP (free) are full featured digital editors. With the power of the complex programs comes a long learing curve to get the maximum output. I have recommended a number of simpler and easier programs over the years to include Photoshop Elements from Adobe and Photo Plus x6 from Serif.
But sometimes it is handy to have a simple program which does just what you want with speed and efficiency. What Paul Simon (remember him - the musician) used to call a "One Trick Pony". I am currently producing animated white board presentations for projects that I am working on (ah ha ! a topic for another blog another day). I find that I need to have objects with background removed such as people or logos. The specs call for a PNG format with a transparent background. Yes - I can do that with Photoshop (or Elements) but with Instantmask-pro from Clipping-Path-Studio Software, I can complete the task in not much more time than it takes to load Photoshop into my computer.
Just a quick green line to mark the inside of the object (very loose) and a second red line to mark the outside of the object and you are good to go. Preview the object selected, clean up image if needed, and click to remove the background. Select a color for background (or transparent) and save your image. You can place a PNG image with a transparent background onto another background image such as a landscape, scale the images and see yourself on an exotic beach, for example. The program will create other format output such as JPG if you are using a white, solid color or another image background - but JPG does not support a transparent background.
