Success In The Rain: My First 30 Days

Reblogger Praful Thakkar
Real Estate Agent with LAER Realty Partners

Everyone wants to learn 'success story' at ActiveRain. People ask me, how many leads did I get from my blogging on ActiveRain?

I have told by many of my clients that they saw me on 'some' blog with market reports!

Here's another success story from Brian. Look at what he has achieved in first 30 days of blogging.

I am sure, you'll love it!

Original content by Brian Rayl

Wow! So much has happened in the past month, that I can hardly believe that I've only been an Active Rain Rain Maker for 30 days now. I wanted to go over a few of my lessons and a few triumphs that I've experienced here on Active Rain in my short time so far.

My 30 Days On Active RainDecember 30th, I signed up for my Rain Maker account. I professed then that I was Lost In The Rain and didn't quite "get" Active Rain. For those of you who don't know me, I'm an avid blogger on my own websites. I never understood why you would want to do all of the work that came with blogging on another site that you had to pay for that had less features!

I learned pretty quickly. Day 14, I posted "I Can't Believe I Never Liked The Rain" where I confessed that I was starting to get it and that I was actually ENJOYING the time I was spending here. Again, I do a lot of blogging on my own website, but as I explained in this article Active Rain fills that Attention Deficit Disorder void and provides you with instant gratification and instant feedback. Sure, it may just be agents who are commenting for points, but you know that people are READING your articles. And perhaps, just perhaps, you can make a difference. If you are lucky, you can get a featured article.

Perhaps I was having a bad weekend when I posted "I'm A Part Time Dallas REALTOR®... You Have A Problem With That?" to vent... but wow was I surprised at the reactions! This post is still my most popular post based on comments and clicks. A few agents had a bad attitude over the post, a few agreed with me, and many just told me to get over myself. LOL! They were absolutely right - nobody really cares about MY status other than me. While there are negative stereotypes out there about every type of group, they are typically the minority, not the majority.

Part of my job as a real estate agent and team leader is educating others about what is currently going on in the industry. This includes educating real estate agents. After reading an amazing blog post by Jeff Mason called "How You're Helping Your Competitors Zillow and Trulia Outrank You" I decided to take up the battle of educating some of the agents here on Active Rain. I posted "Do You Send Your Clients To Zillow or Trulia?" on January 1st. I followed that up with another article on how you can keep your Zillow and Trulia badges using an HTML reference in "So Many Agents Here On Active Rain Don't Care..." which became my second featured post! Anything I can do to help spread the word.

Contests have also been good to me in my short time here in The Rain. The first contest I entered was an IMSD contest about systems. I shared my systems on how to generate referrals and repeat clients and was awarded with some nice bonus points for my post.

Hardship is apparently a good thing to inspire a good post. Another Active Rain contest about getting up close and personal yielded my post on how CANCER SUCKS. Just yesterday, I was notified that I won second place in the contest! Another hardship post that was not contest related was "Just Another Night In The ICU..." after a long, difficult night at my "other job". It was featured about 30 minutes after it was posted, making 3 featured posts in my first month.

So for those "statistics" people out there, here is a quick breakdown of the numbers for my first 30 days:

51 Blog Posts
3 Featured Posts
436 comments received
419 comments left
1 person recruited to join Active Rain
43,420 points earned

I have yet to receive any leads from my postings (none that I can track anyways) and there are many frustrations with some of the features (or lack of) here on Active Rain , but all in all not a bad month by any means. I have connected with many agents from around the US and Canada and there are some things that I can blog about (and vent about) on Active Rain that I can't do on my personal blogs.

Active Rain 30 Day ChallengeAll in all, I'd say that I had a very productive first month. Instant success usually means you will continue to use the system, and I will certainly be continuing my Active Rain Rainmaker subscription. So what can you do in 30 days? I Challenge you to challenge yourself to find out. Make a commitment to blog and interact consistently here on Active Rain for 30 days. If you want to bookmark this post, you can come back and post links to your blog posts. I will read each and every one of them and comment on them. I would be happy to give you tips on how to improve your blogging or tweak your posts. I'll even agree to post a weekly synopsis of my favorite posts for the week. But even without this, you should take the challenge. My entire mindset about Active Rain has changed in 30 days. You might find the same thing if you show some commitment and dedication to the cause.

Are you in?

This is a big deal!

Really!

Every time I try to be a part of such contest, I'll slip... takes a lot of time commitment.

Congratulations to him! I'm going to say Hi to Brian. Thanks for re blogging!

Praful: Thank you so much for the reblog!!

Endre: No referrals yet from AR, but the fact that I'm getting to know many of the heavy hitters (and more importantly, they are getting to know me) will certainly push that along. Here is to hoping the next 30 days is just as productive.

Inna: Thanks for commenting both here and on the original article. Life happens sometimes. What I learned a long time ago from my other websites is that when you have time, write 3 or 4 articles so that you have something in your holster in case you get busy. That way you can just jump on and publish something.

Norman: Thank you for your comment.

Dorie: Glad you enjoyed it. =)
