Who Do They Think They Are?

                                                                  Don't YELL at me!

I can't believe what happened to me today.

My cell phone rings and on the other end is another call from someone trying to sell me something that will help my business go to the next level and blah, blah, blah.  Since I was busy and the guy wouldn't take a breath, I hung up.  This Einstein calls back and I didn't answer because I had more important issues to take care than listen to this rocket scientist.  The call goes to voice mail.  I checked my voice mail later when finished what I was working on and the message made me laugh.  The genius actually had the nerve to tell me NOT to call him back since hanging up on him was unprofessional and he and his company won't do business with people like me!

He called me trying to get my business not me calling him and he has the marbles to leave that message on my voice mail.  If his product was so good then why does he have to try and sell me on it?  I just don't have time to listen to all of these sales calls I get.  Maybe my cell phone lost the signal and the call was lost.  There was no way he could know if it was a lost call or a hang up.  As far as I'm concerned, if you can't handle rejection then get out of sales.

This should be a lesson to all of us.  Don't burn your bridge because you don't know if it was a dropped call or a hang up.

You're right about it not being professional for him to have called you back and yelled at you, but that's about all I agree with you on with this post.  Hanging up on him was unprofessional on your part.  Being in sales, I would think that you would understand that cold calling is part of the business.

It irritates me too to get these calls, just as I'm sure that it irritates FSBO's when I call them.  Unfortunately, I've got two kids in college and calling fsbos is part of what pays those tuitions.  To those of you not in sales, I ask you to remember that NOBODY gets paid until SOMEBODY sells something!

I don't mean to be harsh, but that's the way that I see it.

That is hilarious. I've been getting more sales calls on my cell phone lately.I'm not too happy about that either.

You're absolutely right Bob.  When the salesman won't stop and just keeps going on and on and I listened and tried to stop him for about a minute, what else could I do?  I don't normally hang up on people because I have been in sales my whole life and until you've done door to door sales you learn that you have to have a thick skin to be in sales.

I've had a few of those calls too.  I registered my cell phone on the no call list.

David...Both you and Bob have made good points.  I don't hang up until I have explained to them quickly but firmly that I am not interested in whatever it is they are selling (I don't even care to know).  If that's not enough I simply say "Thank you but no thank you, good-bye.  Than I hang up.  Sometimes they beat me to the punch and that's OK too.

Cheers,

Kathleen

I get real tired of the callas as well.  Especially, when tehy call the cell phone and then within minutes call me at the office.  I will politely get off the phone when able.  It is something to keep in mind, they are trying to make a living like all of us are.  They just need to take no for an aswer adn move on :-)

David, as soon as I hear "We'll take your business to the next level," I kindly interrupt (if possible, since these guys do tend to talk a mile a minute) and say I'm sorry but I'm not interested.  Sometimes they try to keep going and if they don't take no for an answer, then I hang up too!

I usually find myself talking over them and say I'm not interested in what you are selling thank you and good by.  Most of the time they are still talking away.

It is so frustrating to be on the receiving end of a hard sale!  This is one of the reasons I tell my clients that I will move at their pace and not mine.

David...Exactly why I cannot and will not be a pressure type agent.  I hate it when people try to pressure me.  I react very negatively.

Here's to patience and respect for the process!  Real estate is rarely a snap decision.

Dave - I don't know about you but it sems the telemarketing calls have picked up ten fold lately. I had a gy yesterday from the who's who call me that was saying the same things about how much it would benefit me to be in his association. I could not get to understand the answer was NO. Worst of all he was reading from a script! It was so obvious.
