Minneapolis 2nd Tier Suburbs - Always On the Fringe

My husband, Tony, and I live in Plymouth, Minnesota and there isn’t anyone who will say that we have unique restaurants. That’s so sad! What’s up with that? Well, it’s because it’s a sleepy second tier suburb that caters to parents and kids to be like…well…my kid. My kid…Matthew. He was is my little angel. (He’s 23…go stick your finger down your throat…it’s OK.)

When we moved here from Chicago, I insisted he go to Wayzata High School.

And so it was.Wayzata High School

This child walked into a school of 2,400 not knowing one single soul and walked out with his head on straight. He was on the student council, the homecoming court, Mr. Wayzata runner-up and a writer of the Trojan Tirade.

The Trojan Tirade is (and was back in 2001, 2002 when Matthew wrote for it) the alternative school newspaper. That means that the kids (all cool, smart, successful little brats) who wrote for it, gave the staff a hard time and made the student body laugh…not to mention the parents. I know, I sure laughed!

They were irreverent and just plain pains in the butt!

These guys, for the most part, are still friends. It’s been ten years since we moved here and they are there for eachother. They all went to nice colleges, all graduated and didn’t get caught up in drugs. They didn’t get girls pregnant and they treat their parents with respect.

I guess living in a second tier suburb of Minneapolis has it’s benefits even though the restaurants are boring.

Funny, Matthew lives in the city now. He wouldn’t think of living in Plymouth.
