The Newport Bay Corporation, a Bonita Springs company, is working to renew its expired plan the New Monte Cristo development in Estero, between Wildcat Run and Cypress Shadows, just west of Bella Terra.

New Monte Cristo Development in Estero

If approved, The new Monte Cristo Development in Estero will sit on 396 acres on the south side of Corkscrew Road, two to three miles east of Interstate 75.  The community was originally approved by Lee County in 2008, but the developers never started construction due to the sluggish economy.  The developers want to proceed with construction, but first they have to get approval from Lee County officials.  The developers have recently renewed their plan with the ECCP (Estero Community Planning Panel).

The previous plan called for 724 single family homes multi-family and townhome units, but now the number of planned homes has been cut down to 500.  A previous plan for a commercial development has been scrapped.  A large portion of the site will be devoted to preserve space, protecting an existing flow-way and wildlife passageway.  The community will border Wildcat Run, who's homeowner's association is in favor of Monte Cristo's construction.

The new Monte Cristo development in Estero would join two other new communities, The Preserve and Corkscrew Woods, being constructed east of I-75 in Estero.
