The neighborhood that I live in is a subdivision on the very edge of town. Across the street from me is an empty lot (and I hope it stays empty - pretty bad land and it would be hard to build on) and behind that are acres of empty land. The name of my street is "Deer Run Strut", and the deer do run'n'strut around here. Behind the house is one of the half dozen lakes (plus some ponds) in the s/d and the deer use the land on each side of our house as a path to the lakes. One side is a narrow strip 10 foot between our house and the next. The other side is about an acre that the neighbor purchased so no one would build on it. They keep it cleared out to an extent, but it maintains the "woods" effect, without the scrub trees/bushes.
Just tonight, driving home from my band practice (J.O.E. - mentioned in other posts), I stopped on one of the earthen dams as one of the deer slowly crossed from the lake into the woods. i should've grabbed my iPhone and snapped a pic, but as usual, just watched....
Deer, fox, raccoon's, possums, and even various snakes. The best of country livin', yet in the city.
LOVE IT!!!
