Protect Your Home from Cold Weather Pests
Rodents, wildlife and insects can cause serious problems in your home during the winter months, particularly if your home is left vacant, as is the case with some vacation homes.
Did you know that mice & rats can chew through electrical wires causing a fire hazard and/or electrical damage? Their urine and fecal matter can also contaminate food and spread disease. Help prevent mice & rats from getting into your home by installing weather stripping on windows & doors and trimming overgrown branches on trees, bushes & plants outside your home. Don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink or food on the counter and put pet food away in a secure storage container at night.
Pesky insects feed on plants, food and crops and can be a nuisance inside your home. Help prevent insects from entering your home by caulking cracks and crevices, place screens over windows and install door sweeps under all doors.
Wildlife such as flying squirrels, opossums, bats & more can cause significant damage to the interior and exterior of your home. They often chew through wood, wires and more to reach hidden areas such as your attic. In addition to causing damage, many culprits carry diseases. Prevent wildlife from entering your home by checking your crawl space and attic regularly, cover vents with wire cloth and store pet foods and trash in hard plastic or metal bins with tightly closed lids.
