Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are many reasons why we should not skip breakfast; here are a few reasons:

 

  • Revs up your metabolism and burns faster the entire day
  • You should never go more than 8 hours between meals. If you skip breakfast your body will try to conserve and it will make you weak plus it shows down your metabolism.
  • You burn a lot of calories in the morning after breakfast and will give you energy to get through the day.
  • Breakfast gives you good brain power too.
  • By eating breakfast, you are less likely to binge at lunchtime
  • You will be in a better mood if you eat breakfast as your blood sugar levels do not drop
  • AMA says people who eat breakfast, tend to be healthier and less overweight.
  • People who eat a healthy and balanced meal, are less likely to have serious diseases.
  • Better to eat a lighter breakfast rather than a big breakfast. If you eat eggs, bacon, pancakes,hash browns, toast….chances are you will feel sluggish all morning.

 

Here are some breakfast suggestions.

 

Breakfast.......The Most Important Meal of the Day· A nonfat or low-fat yogurt  layered with fresh fruit and cereal, nuts or raisins
· Low-fat yogurt mixed with fresh fruit in a blender for a vitamin-rich smoothie
· Whole wheat toast with a little peanut butter and banana slices
· Instant oatmeal or whole grain cold cereal with raisins or fresh fruit and low-fat dairy or soy milk
· Fish, such as leftover salmon, on a whole grain bagel with reduced or nonfat cream cheese
· Small bran or fruit & nut muffins (homemade is better)

My Comments: I am not a breakfast eater so I am trying really hard to wake up and eat early and drink water with my meal. I am starting to get used to eating early and then I am not starving when lunch comes around. Even my dogs stand around for cereal bites.

I don't eat anything in the morning too....but I have 3 cups of coffee with one toasted olive or black piece of bread with a little bit of butter on top... yuummm:)

Yes I am very familiar with Weight Watchers and it is a good program. They promote healthy eating and 3 meals and small snacks daily. I have just gotten out of the habit of eating breakfast so I am on track this week.

 I agree with you that Moms' know best. I remember eating toast and orange juice on the mornings I was taking a test in college as I was smart enough to know that food gave you brain power. Breakfast is very important indeed.. it is the fuel to get the body started in the morning. I stop drinking coffee a while ago, it was killing my tummy so now I have a variety of delicious teas, my current favorite is peppermint... yum!

Hi Patty, I drink tea when I am sick in the mornings but usually drink coffe but have cut down a lot. I do love iced tea almost as much as diet coke. So I am trying to drink more and more water lately. Thanks for stopping by and glad you eat breakfast in the morning.

I certainly agree; breakfast gives us fuel food to keep going thoughout our long mornings and sometimes do not get lunch until later in the afternoon. As we know sometimes those morning appointments go longer than we expect so we are not starving. Happy Sunday.

Hi Carol,

Ever since I was in college many years ago, I would always eat breakfast on exam mornings so even back then I realized the importance of breakfast. You are right, it is hard to get back into the habit but I buy fruit and cereal I like so that makes it easier. Some mornings, I even wake up a little hungry for breakfast so that is good.
