What makes a home have personal value for you over the years?
THIS is one important question my clients have been asking me of late.
You don't have to be old to live in an accessible home. But with luck you will be old someday. Now what? It's not news. The "Lucky Few" (1929-1945) & "Baby Boomers" (1946-1964) are retiring- at the rate of- get this- 10,000 per day!
With good advice from real estate and real estate-related professionals, older adults also can do so with a new vision of aging. I like to think that this is a perspective that includes lovely alternative living arrangements and lifestyle conveniences. I love the idea of an over-arching a sense of belonging, of beauty and of well-being in a home with personal value. But how accomplished this?
Forward planning can make a home work for tomorrow
Mature people can (have the consumer buying power) to set The Trend -both in envisioning and creating- homes that are sustainable- and here in Asheville, I'm seeing this can be regardless of age or physical ability. I'm not alone. The Joint Center for Housing Studies- Harvard University found that there has been a surge in remodeling expenditures in which boomers in particular spent freely on remodeling projects.
As an example, the home pictured in the photo above has many universal design features and benefits. Adopting universal design elements and concepts can help to make a home a sustainable adventure over a lifetime regardless of the age of the people who live there. -
