Buyer's Remorse

By

Buyer's remorse - what is it? Have you ever experienced it? Have you have decided to sell/buy your home and relocate to a larger home? Smaller home? Assisted living facility? No matter your individual circumstances there is a high possibility that at some point during this transition you will experience what is called "buyer's remorse." A second guessing of your decision, a skewed memory of your prior circumstance (remembering only the best parts and glossing over your original reasons for this change), and a mourning for "what was" can result in a full blown case of "buyer's remorse."

At the Gary McNinch Team we discuss every aspect of your decision to sell/buy your home with you in our efforts to help you be aware of the possibility of "buyer's remorse" and to handle it effectively.

Recently you may recall my blog about moving my mother-in-law into an assisted living facility. Initally she was upbeat about her decision to make this move and very positive. My wife and the family all commented on how easy the move is when the elderly person makes the decision themselves and doesn't feel forced or coerced into this move. My experience told me this may not last. Sure enough, two weeks into this "move" Mom (almost 93 yrs of age) is having regrets, second thoughts, mourning the loss of her independence, the loss of her ability to cook her own meals, her car, etc. She has started researching nearby apartments and is considering moving out of the assisted living facility and back into an apartment of her own. Question mark

While you may not have the option to "go back" in a sale/purchase arrangement, acknowledging that buyer's remorse exists, mentally preparing for the possibility it may hit you at some point during this change will help you to deal effectively and realistically  when/if it hits. As your realtor, we at the Gary McNinch Team are here to help you make the changes as effortless as possible.

So how does your schedule look? Want to grab a pair of gloves and help me move my mother-in-law? Again??
