Well I can't say this surprises me at all. I don't know about you, but in my mailbox, all I pretty much get are ads, junk mail, and a whole bunch of nothing.
I just saw a news item that said the post office cannot afford to deliver on Saturdays any longer because they are losing so much money. They apparently lost $1.3 Billion in the last quarter of 2012. According to this report, that comes out to about $36 Million per day. So if they cut out Saturday delivery, they "could" save $2 Billion, instead of the $15 Billion Per Year loss they are sustaining now.
I don't know how accurate all these numbers really are, but I do know one thing. They should have thought about this a long time ago!
I know there are a lot of people, mostly the elderly, who depend on their mail coming on Saturday, but, I think it may be mostly habit. I imagine that the companies that send out checks to people on certain days, such as retirement funds and social securit, will adjust their mail dates to take this into consideration.
I guess the downfall of the postal service is "E-Mail". E-mail is so much easier and quicker than snail mail, and more folks use it than not, I'm thinkin. I, for one, don't get anything by snail mail anymore, except the junk.
