Where did Whoopie Pies really originate?
Our friend Rebecca Gaujot wrote a sweet blog about enjoying a Red Velvet Whoopie Pie at the Greenbrier Farm Market.
Rebecca's post reminded me of a blog that I wrote in February, 2011:
This appears to be a very serious question in Maine and Pennsylvania. Or, should another state be staking a claim to the fame that is associated with Whoopie Pies?
What are your memories of your first Whoopie Pie experience? Ask your parents and grandparents the same question.
Tell us your Whoopie Pie story in the comments for this post.
Read the article by Sumanthi Reddy in the Wall Street Journal.

"Lancaster locals have long claimed that Pennsylvania Dutch country is the home of the Whoopie Pie. But the state of Maine begs to differ."

Roy - I've never heard of a "whoopie pie" but I like red velvet cake! Hope you're enjoying the weekend. I'm doing a lot of hiking...
Roy,
I agree with Kristine above and love her photo; I love Red Velvet cakes one of my favorites. I just bought a Yankee Candle with that scent this week!
Roger, thanks for the mention on my red velvet whoopie cake post .... it was simply light and delicious..
Thanks so much for your comments. It is sad to know that some of you have never had the pleasure of eating a Whoopie Pie.

Roy, I too remain in the dark, and have not heard of a Whoopie Pie, quite interesting!
I grew up in the east coast, and I remember eating chocolate, peanut butter & vanilla flavored whoopie pies...but never red velvet. My aunt used to make them.. they were delicious!
This is serious business in Lancaster Co. , PA !!! Those folks from Maine are copycats !!!!!!!
Royl somehow I've gotten to this point in my long life without sampling this delicacy!
Anybody that has not had a Woopie Pie should visit Lancaster, PA for a wonderful experience.
Mmmmmm....whoopie pies!!! For those of you in Massachusetts, there is a an amazing place to get whoppie pies right here in my hometown of Hudson or for the rest of you, they will mail all over the country: http://www.harvardsweetboutique.com/p-203-a-little-whoopie.aspx
Hi Roy, we have friends in Lancaster and next time we visit will definitely try a Woopie Pie.
Really like this post. I stopped by the first article to comment. These seem to be hard to find in California but I really like them.
