FEMA To Issue Up-Dated Flood Data

By
Real Estate Agent with SHAHAR Management

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recognizes that communities affected by Hurricane Sandy have already started or will begin making critical recovery decisions - long before any new Flood Insurance Rate Maps can be finalized in the affected areas. To that end, FEMA is working to prepare more up to date flood hazard information in the coming weeks to allow communities, residents and business owners to make informed rebuilding decisions. More than 35,000 homes and businesses will now be located in flood zone areas.  Use of this information will be required for certain FEMA-funded recovery and mitigation activities after release and is highly encouraged for other rebuilding efforts.

Hi Debra,  FEMA declared our entire island to be in the " 100 year flood plain " .  It has some very significant implications for housing.

Debra, I have read so many distressing stories how people are still in limbo and can't even demolish their storm damaged home because of all the red tape. The aftermath of Sandy is going to linger for years in your area and this is a great example of how things will change in the future.

Thanks for stopping by to comment!  This storm has been just devastating and the effects will definitely linger for many years to come.
