Use Social Networks to Promote Your RSS Feed

I discovered great a blog post on RSS from WordPress Web 2.0 Spot-Er, and found the bottom half of the post to be of greatest interest to me. Be sure to check out the blog for the entire post and more info, but below are excerpts of how to bring a steady flow of traffic to your blog using social networks.

1. Claim Your Blog On Technorati. This step should be obvious…  Create an account and claim your blog.

2. Join Blogcatalog and submit your blog. Once your blog is approved, your feed will be displayed on your profile with links back to your blog.

3. Join MyBlogLog and submit your blog. Once you become active enough within the community , your blog profile will also tend to rank well on Google (same as Blogcatalog)...

4. Join Facebook (if you haven’t already) and add the Blog Friends application...it allows you to display your latest blog feed ...

5. Register with Squidoo and create a Lense. The fact is… you can add your RSS feed to your new Lense and even if it doesn’t become popular it will still market your feed for you.

6. Create Windows Live Space and add your feed.  Adding your feed to Windows Live Space used to be simple and generated some nice traffic, so I plan to get back to it once I get some time and recommend you do same!

These are just a few of the most rewarding ways you can promote your RSS feed without investing too much.

Time to get busy and promote that blog!

thank you, Kay. I submitted my Spring Texas Real Estate blog feed to the list of 25 directories you provided in a separate post about a week. I have seen an increase in traffic since I submitted it. I will have to submit it to these blog directories and see if I can reap the benefit of another increase in traffic.

Chris - Thanks for subscribing!

Deborah - I'm glad you find them helpful.

Jimmy - You're welcome.

Konnie - That's what the RSS feed is all about. The feeds distribute each blog post all over the Internet.

Kay, we meet again! I mentioned in another blog post of yours that I was going to read all your work. After reading this particualar post I have a question:

I understand that Web2.0 is a great feature, and I can definitely see the benefits of an RSS feed, for a website or a blog.  But are there not security issues that come into play with utilizing an RSS feed?  Does that feed not open up the floodgates for hackers and "Counter Spies! The Competition!"?  Even "Twitter", which I read in another blog, opens you up to such possibilities does it not?

I'm not trying to put the fear of "God" or some "terror***" into everyone, I would just like to know the negative repurcussions?  I would think there must be far more positives than negative to this route?

Martin - There are no security issues with RSS feeds, I don't know why that rumor is making the rounds. I know of no negative repercussions with using an RSS feed, except maybe too much trafic!
