What Is Your Favorite Alpine Business?
Do You Know a Great Business That Calls Alpine, CA Home?
Please suggest them for our new business profile.
Alpine has been my home on and off since 1990. Of course in the early years I might not have been especially happy about it. You see my parents moved me to Alpine from Point Loma my junior year of high school (oops, I just gave away my age). I move away for a while, and then when I found out that we were expecting our third child and my oldest was getting close to attending school we knew we couldn't wait any longer to move back.
Alpine, official population 17,000+ citizens is known as bedroom community of San Diego, or the last outpost of civilization on your way to Arizona. Of course to those of us who call it home know it is so much more. It is where kids can play in the neighborhood with minimal worries, it is where we can expect the whole community to show up for the 3 annual parades, where almost every weekend there is some kids sporting event and where we designate locations by "in town" and "down the hill". Of course "down the hill" refers to going anywhere west to the local cities to do anything that you can't find in Alpine from shopping, services and activities.
The past few years have been hard on the businesses of Alpine. We of have felt the effects of the national recession, larger chains have come to town and some of our long time established businesses have gone away and of course there has been the daily assault of the Sempra Energy construction that has blocked business and stopped traffic down Alpine Boulevard and throughout town for what seems like forever. Of course we also lost two of our iconic restaurants, The Alpine Inn and The Breadbasket. These were once great restaurants that people would actually make special trip to Alpine from the city to patronize.
I thought it would be great to showcase these great businesses so we support or friends and neighbors and make Alpine stronger and of course drive less. Each article will profile a business and hopefully give a business tip or two to inspire. To suggest a business please email me directly at Rachell.Lara@gmail.com and of course questions and comments are welcome.
