Blogging pays... And pays... And pays...

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.

Yes, blogging pays!  Even when you're not blogging, your old blog posts are still generating new consumer contacts and agent referrals.

Westfield Mall AnnapolisGo to the gym or walk the mall? This is my first decision most mornings, these days, and walking Annapolis Mall usually wins. They open at 7 a.m. for walkers and I enjoy seeing the evolving store windows more than I enjoy the view from a treadmill. And it's always a challenge when someone much older flies past at a quicker pace... that inspires me to push harder, as I try to catch up and keep up.  'Still working on this, but I've come a long way in pursuit of a healthier me.

Choosing a blog topic for the day was my first decision of the morning for about 5 years, and that's still on my mind as I'm walking. In fact, I often pause to add a new blog topic to the list on my cell phone. This one has come to mind often - every time someone contacts me for more info after reading one of my blog posts or an Activerain agent sends a referral my way.

Fortunately, the old blog posts are still working for me and generating leads. Each time this happens, I marvel again at the "shelf life" of a blog post. At each closing, I thank the ActiveRain gods who made it possible for me to have this source of business, even when I'm not actively working it as much. Just yesterday, a new listing resulted from a referral by Activerainer Kathy Sperl-Bell, a Delaware agent who specializes in Active Adult communities. (Thank you, Kathy!)

If you're hesitating about jumping on the blog bandwagon, do so no more. Take a stab at it... It's the cheapest and easiest marketing you can do for yourself and your listings, and you can't beat the shelf life. Even if you never generate a single lead, which is unlikely, ActiveRain will still enrich your life through the network of new colleagues and friends you'll meet - not to mention all the great ideas and skills learned from reading ActiveRain daily. That's something I still do, even on days when I don't blog myself.

Yes, blogging DOES pay (...and pay... and pay).

I keep hearing this common theme over and over again.  Blogs create leads and that's a good thing.  Thanks for the encouraging post!

Margaret, We're getting more and more contacts from our niche blogging.  More often than not they just want to ask a question or two and aren't ready to be converted to actual buyers/sellers, but sometimes they do and that's why we keep showing up with the keyboard :)

Right on Margaret!  Blogging certainly does pay off.  We are currently working 2 referrals from AR members and 2 new clients that found us here.  Very exciting!

Blogging is in fact a form of this Century's  Lead Generation options. It takes ongoing effort ! I have noticed tho , that it seems most ARers who are receiving ongoing blogging leads have posted well over 1,000 blog posts.(in other words no one knocking on 23 doors should realistically expect 23 listings ! )

Kathy, you're right... I haven't done that in a while.  'Good tip for the newbies!

Laura, thanks for your comment... 'so glad it's working for you!

Tammie, so true.  I can't believe more people haven't figured out what a good thing blogging is for their business.

Praful, I'm glad that most agents don't "get" it.  Makes us stand out in our marketplaces.

Scott, welcome to Activerain.  You will no doubt be amazed at how it can change (and better) your life.

Kent, you're welcome.

Sharon, I'm so grateful for the time I was able to invest in blogging and miss doing it as often now.

Debbie, I have watched your blog grow and your online persona explode.  Congratulations!

Kathie, it's so true!  When one of your clients asks you a question, assume other consumers have the same question and turn your answer into a blog post.

Liz and Bill, those initial calls do lead to business and personal referrals, over time. I love having you in my network!

The Christiansen Team, you obviously are doing something right... Congratulations!

Michael, you're right... I think it's a combination of consistency, content, and presentation that make a blog effective.

Richie, I couldn't have imagined what blogging would do for me personally, let alone my business.

Fernando, I am so grateful that consumers still find my blogs.

Paula, congratulations!

Ridhi, the shelf life of this form of marketing is amazing.  Just think of how much we used to spend on print ads that got thrown away the day after they appeared.

Kathryn, they are.  I remember when my daughter moved to Texas and we were searching for articles about the market and neighborhoods.  It was frustrating to find none, in those early days of Activerain.

Scott, you're certainly in a good place for doing that.  Activerain will give your blog an extra boost in the search engines.

Hi, Vicki - I've been away, too, but those 4-5 year old blog posts still generate contacts.  As I struggle to find more hours in the day, I believe I'll just have to settle for a less strenuous jogging schedule.  Every day is just not going to happen for me.

Christine - so true!  So effective, too.
