OH MY GOODNESS!!!  A NEW GOVERNMENT PROGRAM!!

The government is now going to "UNIFY ACTION TO CONTROL AND PREVENT MAJOR HOUSING-RELATED EXPOSURE AND HAZARDS."

Create and support training and workforce development to address health hazards in housing

There you go. . . . .  a WORKFORCE.

Nuff said!!

Just when I think the government has reached the highs of intrusion into our lives... I'm proved wrong.

On Monday, February 4, HUD announced what they're calling a "Bold new vision." It's called Advancing Healthy Housing - A Strategy for Action.

To quote HUS Secretary Shaun Donovan, “Today’s announcement will help the federal government unify action to controlling and preventing major housing-related exposures and hazards.”

What will be the consequences, intended or otherwise?

While I'm wondering how this will affect everyone involved with the housing industry, I'm envisioning another boated government agency - hiring thousands of well-paid workers to oversee the program and take action on the five goals:

  1. "Establish healthy homes recommendations
  2. Encourage adoption of healthy homes recommendations
  3. Create and support training and workforce development to address health hazards in housing
  4. Educate the public about healthy homes
  5. Support research that informs and advances healthy housing in a cost-effective manner"

How far will they take this?

Will they tear down the public housing that's been destroyed by uncaring tenants? Will they drag the street people into shelter whether they like it or not. Will they insist that old rental housing be torn down?

I can think of several old rentals in our community with wavy floors, single question markspane windows, mice in the walls, etc.

Will there be new, tougher inspection standards for people who "fix and flip?"

Will they insist that people move out of those old mobile homes with aluminum wiring? If so - where will they go? Will "We the people" buy them a new one or build them a new one?

One thing is certain - this will cost money.

moneyLooks to me like another case of government overstepping its authority. And WHY are they coming up with a new way to spend millions when they NEED to cut spending?

Is this something that went through Congress while we weren't looking, or is it something they simply decided to do without approval from Congress?

Read the whole announcement, and share your thoughts...

I'm trying my best to recall some government program, any government program that was started and FINISHED during the past 20 years.

Help anyone???

Katrina anyone???
Sandy anyone???

Those two disasters are still disasterous.

Lenn Congress is not very receptive to new programs right now, so if this becomes a reality, they will have to do an end run around Congress. Some polititician has a friend that needs a agency to head-up and here it is. Who says that government doesn't create jobs??? And what a deal that we are getting for our tax dollars. If it does NOT make sense, Washington will try to do it.

George.  The Pres will just wait for Congress to recess and then by executive order, create anything he wants.  How was the The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau done????
