Keeping it Fresh with Loreena Yeo

Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain, Community Manager

This week's KIF is brought to you by Loreena Yeo

How long have you been in business?
I’ve been selling real estate since 2003. Began my journey part time and doing this full time in January 2007, started my own by July 2007. I probably waited 3 years too long to go full time.

What outfit do you own that makes you feel invincible?
I don’t know if I have a “style” but classy is what I like. I typically like to dress up, not necessarily for “fashion” or for others to see. It’s for “my own cause”. It’s my way of telling myself that “I’m showing up for success”.

What is the biggest fashion faux pas you've ever made?
My biggest fashion faux pas I’ve made is to show up in an Old Navy sweater and running shoes in the early part of my full-time career. The client probably didn’t think I was “old” enough or “serious” enough to handle her $700K transaction. Later that week, I saw her out shopping with an agent who was in a business suit and driving a Mercedes Benz SUV. I knew instantly what I had done wrong. I will never make that same mistake again.

What celebrity is your style doppelganger?
I admire Kate Middleton a lot. I think she’s world class. You don’t need to show any parts of your body and still be loved by the world.

Best Fashion Advice?
Best fashion advice? As long as you feel like a million dollars, you look fabulous and classy. Put on your “Success Armor” daily and more importantly, be YOU!

I like to wear a power red blouse, black dress slacks and jacket...and fiery red pointed toe high heals...looks sharp. I get many compliments with that outfit.

Loreena,

On this topic I must respectfully disagree.  While we are taught to always dress 1 level above our expected client, but I rather would just be me and they know I am real.  I don't change and they don't mind.  I am Tommy Bahama and proud of it.

A year ago, I started wearing suits, or at least shirt w/tie, rather than just a polo shirt. SO FAR, no real difference in sales...

I like to dress nicely, but not necessarily a suit. When meeting with clients, I like to wear something that says "I am here to do business." I will however, wear jeans when out previewing.

Southeast Arizona land, farms & horse properties

What we wear should fit the properties we work with. When selling land and rural properties even luxury homes on large acreage parcels of land you need to wear different clothing and shoes than showing city properties. I wear jeans and shoes that protect my feet when showing land since I am often walking thorough brush and tall grass. My clients dress the same way since they know what they will be dealing with. I never know if I will be walking out on the property looking for survey markers but I need to be prepared. I also take an ice chest with cold water and have some snacks with me in case anyone needs something.

The most amusing showing involved an older couple who took their daughter in law along. The young woman had just gotten her real estate license. She was wearing a short skirt and high heels and the clients were dressed in jeans and tennis shoes as I was. We were looking at a house on 36 acres with outbuildings and I watched the young woman tiptoe around the tumbleweeds. The couple said that they suggested she wear something else but her comment was " I will be meeting another Realtor and I want to look professional". She learned a lesson about rural property and wished she had dressed like everyone else before we finished that day.

When I was a broker in Scottsdale I wore suits and dressed differently and it worked for that market. What I wore there would not work well in southeast Arizona.

fashion is important!!!  of course style is more important than fashion and admittedly, most men do not appreciate this distinction!!  One of my dearest friends, Larry is a succesfull agent in FL and he always wears unpressed floral shirts and his 80's poodle perm...seems to work!!

Dear Kerrie,

Loreena of course looks like a model, so I do not think that Old Navy sweater was the problem, because she would probably look stunning in a paper bag. Maybe she was just too nice and the client preferred someone more aggressive.

Kerrie~ Being comfortable in "your own skin" seems to be a common message for this series.
