Are Realtors a Happy Bunch? I am a Happy Realtor.

Real Estate Agents In Newburgh NYI will admit it. I watch Grey’s Anatomy on Hulu. Okay maybe not the best TV, but it is a mindless show that lets me chill before sleeping. Last night I had to laugh as the doctors were complaining about their jobs and the stress and blah bl!ah blah. Then one doctor says, “I want to be a Realtor, It looks like fun. Realtors…… well, Realtors look happy!”  While the conversation had little to do with real estate it gave me pause.  Do people perceive Realtors as a happy bunch?

The second thing I will admit is that I like my job. With all the negative aspects of being a Realtor, there are a good number of great things that I can do as a realtor that other profession would never permit.

I like my job and all the perks that come from the lifestyle. Is it perfect? No, nothing in life is perfect (yes, there was Quinn, my last dog. He was perfect), but what in life is truly perfect?  

So what are a few of those great things that keep ME happy?? 

  • Flexible schedule.
  • Meeting great people. 
  • Touring houses – well not all of them. I do love to tour the homes for sale on the river and take photos. 
  • I am thrilled to be out and about instead of sitting behind a desk. I love helping people.
  • My favorite?  Handing over the keys to new homeowners on closing day and seeing how happy they have become.
In any real estate transaction things can get complicated and not everything goes well. Each and every deal is unique and many different issues can arise. I am a problem solver looking to get  my clients to the finish line and happy to help make each and every transaction as stress free as possible. Your agent should be working for you, keeping things simple and a negative attitude is not going to facilitate any of that. A challenge? Yes! I cannot sugarcoat it and some days are more difficult than others. I enjoy it when everything comes together and my job results in happy clients. That makes it all worth while. So if you ask me, I am a Happy Realtor.

Janis, I love being a Realtor, I'm happy.  But I also recognize that part of being so satisfied with being a Realtor is that we are members of an Excellent Board of Realtors and Our Orange County Agents work so well together.

Janis- When I look at the profile pics here, you can often see the "happy" people and you have always impressed me as being one member of the "happy" bunch.  Being happy with what you do doesn't mean you don't have to work hard or that it's easy.  BTW.... I love Owen & Christina and miss Dr. McSteamy.

I'm with you Janis...I love what I do too being a Realtor and for all the reasons you mentioned plus, I'd add helping the distressed homeowner avoid foreclosure by selling their home as a Short Sale....its a very rewarding profession. Greys Anatomy relaxes me too!

Thanks Kathy!! working hard and being happy can go hand in hand... the rewards are bigger and the satisfaction is enormous! I do miss some of the old characters. I will miss it if the show ends this  year... =( I don't watch much regular TV.. i'll have to go find something else for down time.

Lynn.. I'm sure that a good number of us watch it. There comes a point that everyone needs to shut down and turn it all off.

Janis what a great post, part of our job is to be happy:)) I remember going to Tony Robbins Seminars and Diane would be grumpy:)) I used to tell her I just wasted  XXXX$ of dollars by you being grumpy, now the funny part is she werks for a law firm...How many people do you know who are happy in a law firm? I guess it is the fact that we make people happy when they buy or sell their properties makes us happy!!!

You watch Grey’s Anatomy too...:)  Debbie thinks all things must stop when Grey's Anatomy comes on.  I grab the notebook and start blogging for an hour... Anyway back to being happy.  If we're happy with ourselves and our jobs it shows and our confidence brings us more work.  Your happiness in being a REALTOR beams through your posts.

Janis~ I do like enjoy the flexibility of my schedule and the option to work from home from time to time. The best part is getting every one to the closing table. There are many stressers and I could certainly do without those. What I really like best is that every day is different so you never get bored! :-)
