44 Comments on Real Estate Success is Like Ice Skating
Great post Margaret. Very good points you make there. That said... I won't be wearing tights.
Lot of credit goes to AR for...
It is a bit like ice skating. The better the skater the easier it looks! Those that do not glide with ease make it look like a difficult task!
My comment on your last statement, Margaret ---
There have been numerous people who have gotten into real estate because it looked so easy...very few of them stayed. .
There are still many around us who are learning the balancing act in skating rink, they are still there, because it's easy to stay!
Margaret -- In interviewed someone who wanted to get her license because she just loved watching those HGTV shows about property flippers. Umm, it's not quite like that, dear!
Great post, Margaret. I will admit I was one of those who thought it looked easy from the outside before I got my license. Luckily, I am also a realist and got down to some serious hard work and studying so I could glide better across the ice. Like ice skating, you might fall a bunch of times at first, but the secret is to keep trying and keep getting better. Oh, and no one wants to see me in tights, on the rink or anywhere else *chuckles*
If only it was as ez as people think!
This is one of those posts that I wish there was a "Like" button for comments. The cold hard truth is that 20% of the agents do 80% of the business- those are the ones that make it look easy. Ice skating is the perfect analogy. How many times did we all fall flat on our face before we were able to skate just a little bit?
Great analogy - the great make it look easy, but it takes lots of dedicated practice to be really good!
Hi Margaret,
I really enjoyed the post and all the comments and many made me laugh. I think a lot of new agents think it will be a breeze and think they will sit down at their desk and the phone will start ringing off the hook. There is so many positive reasons to sell real estate but mainly you just have to love it and want to help people sell or buy a home. So many obstacles and then if and when it does close, all the broker fees, taxes, and dues we pay. Not all wine and roses but gives us a great satisfaction that we have done a good job for our clients.
Hi Margeret , Great analogy & so true. I'm an agent 25 years & I can't tell you how many of my past buyers have gotten their real estate license because they thought my job looked so easy. The funny thing is that I can count the ones that are still practicing real estate on one hand.
What I like most about this post is not the wisdom and truth here BUT the fact that it is so beautifully written.
I agree Margaret, far too many people get into Real estate for the big money commissions and don't realize until they are into it that they generally have to split that commission four ways and then pay a whole bunch of expenses out of it as well.
So good seeing all the comments. I have visited each of your blogs and made a comment. Thanks for stopping by.
Great analogy. I'm predict that as the market heats up, the real estate schools are going to be filling up.
Great analogy Margaret, making it look fun & easy comes from experience.
Sondra, You are probably right.
Diane, Thanks for calling the show on Sunday. Much appreciated.
Margaret thatis so true- everyone thinks they can do it until they learn what is not taught in the course, which is it is hard work and you need to be fully funded before you hit the ice!
Allison, Fully funded before hitting the ice...good statement.
Margaret, I love this cleverly written post with the links you provided. There is nothing easy about selling real estate. Those who think it is about showing lovely homes are clueless. Every day is filled with slippery ice in the form of puzzles and challenges. I love the unexpected twists and turns, the personalities, and the newness of every day in real estate.
Sharon, Thanks for stopping by and sharing your kind words.
