Getting Traffic up the Long Tail - Pay Per Click? Cross Linking

Is anyone paying per click for long tail posts?

Many keywords that are intended to reach to the "long tail" can reach the right audience by having good SEO design. Of course, that is the preferred method but there may be other ways of getting the traffic up.

One of the advantages of bringing traffic into the long tail topics is that it PROFILES the viewers so they are already interested in the subject matter. The farther out on the long tail the keywords and subject material is, the more focused the viewer is on being interested in the material.

I can see a strategy wherein site visitors are "funneled" off to specific long tail posts from more general posts by providing links to the long tail posts in the more general pages.

Quite a while ago, near the end of 2009, I made an AR post titled "Prescott RV Neighborhoods" That blog post was Number 1 in Google Organic results the very next day. I see this as a near-perfect example of a long tail post. Over the three years since this post, it has been seen nearly 1,300 times and has had 96 Short URL Links.

Never really looked at it that way John, but I would think something a specific as RV wouldn't have everyone looking as they do real estate and does that make a difference.

Getting a site visitor to read a long tail post is a step toward qualifying a potential customer. In the case of my example, it is likely that readers are either RV owners or contemplating buying one.
