While the fact is that you can save a good deal of money on physically distressed residential Tampa real estate, you need to understand that this benefit does not come without some risk. It goes without saying that you are purchasing property that will be in need of assistance and rehabilitation. In other words, you are going to have to spend at least some money on improving and repairing the property after your purchase to make certain that it is in an appropriate condition when you begin living in that residence.

What you need to do is weigh and balance the costs of purchasing the physically distressed property in the first instance against the amount of money that you will have to spend on repairing and improving the property after you make such a purchase. Obviously, if you will end up paying a significant amount of money rehabbing the property such that you would pay less on similar real estate in good condition on the open market, you will want to reconsider such a purchase.

I agree that it is important the have a thorough inspection of a property before proceeding withe purchase.  Many buyers need to know that a REO or Foreclosed property may have been thrashed prior to the previous occupant leaving and thus be in need of repair.

However, there are definately some amazing deals on distressed properties out there!

We offer a new service, www.RepoCaravan.net where we provide expert advise on buying REO properties in the Palm Springs area.
