Alden School, Duxbury Massachusetts

Alden Elementary School is the Duxbury public school for third through fifth grade.  It is located on Alden Street, near the Duxbury Yacht Club and the Duxbury Arts Center in Duxbury, Massachusetts.  It's the second in the progression of four public schools in the Duxbury school system.  The Chandler School educates pre-kindergarten through 2th graders, while the Duxbury Middle School is the public school for 6th through 8th graders, and students go on from there to Duxbury High School.

In any given year, about 850 children are enrolled in the Alden Elementary School.  Every student takes classes in Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music and Physical Education, and are exposed to library skills and computer skills, which are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students have access technology centers and classroom computers.

The curriculum at Alden School is intended to teach children acceptance and respect for people, self-confidence, responsibility and a life-long love of learning.  The curriculum for all grades is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.  Details about the curriculum and links to other aspects of the school can be found here.

Alden Elementary is a great school in a town with a set of excellent public schools.  US News doesn't rank elementary schools, but Duxbury High is ranked 13th in Massachusetts.  Alden Elementary gets an 8 out of 10 at the GreatSchools website.

The Alden School is centrally located in Duxbury.  The neighborhoods around the Chandler Elementary School have many families with children. There are numerous side streets and cul-de-sacs, providing safe places for children to congregate and play.  

For homeowners, when the day comes that the kids have all graduated and moved out, Duxbury remains a wonderful, compelling and lovely place to live.
