Dolores Kelley shares a spot and stain removal secret

PICRIN

Dolores asked if I would take a short trip with her to an industrial park in Silver Spring, Maryland.  It is a bit unusual us us to go shopping in in industrial park but it was an interesting adventure.

For many years, my wife, Dolores Kelley, has been using a product that has saved many trips to the dry cleaners and has made white upholstery more practical to use. You may not be familiar with this product since is is manufactured for professional use by dry cleaners.  Clothing stores use this product to remove lipstick stains and other spots.

The product is PICRIN and can be purchased from distributors that sell to dry cleaners. PICRIN requires very careful use but it is a dream product that will remove spots and stains from clothing and fabrics in your home or office.  The link for more information on PICRIN is below the picture of the product.

We found PICRIN at Amato Industries, Inc., at 9120 Talbot Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.  They usually sell the product by the case but were happy to sell a gallon to Dolores for personal use.

Picirn Volatile Dry Spotter

Picrin®
A volatile dry-side stain remover

The Volatile Dry Spotter™

Why Picrin belongs on every spotting board.

“Dry-side” spotting is done without the use of moisture. It’s a technique employed when water or steam, or wet-side spotting agents might disturb the fabric’s dye or spread the dye contained in stains like cosmetics.

Picrin, used along with other dry-side agents, is indispensable for working difficult dry-side stains. Applied as the first step, Picrin dissolves and flushes soluble stain components from fabric to prevent them from spreading. Then, after applying the appropriate dry-side agent and working the stain, Picrin is used to flush the loosened stain from the fabric before drycleaning. This eliminates the possibility of working loosened soils back into the fabric. Once the stain is gone, a final flushing with Picrin will remove the spotting agents to prevent bleeding of fabric dye, ring formation, or transfer of dye to other garments.

When used for touch up spotting, Picrin’s controlled evaporation makes it easy to remove pick-up soil without leaving a ring, saving the time it would take to reclean the garment.

Roy, great information as we ALWAYS need tips on getting spots out.    I held an open house over the weekend - BRAND NEW CARPET, and a note on the front door - remove shoes.    Always had a box of shoe covers.    Still had a couple come through with their shoes on, and GREASE all over the brand new carpet.   Spot Shot got it out.    Will keep this tip on my desk, never know when we need to get stains out!

Thanks for sharing Dolores' little secret. I will do some research on the product - we have hardwoods throughout most of the house, but Mac likes to lay at the bottom of our carpeted stairs - it's the area that generally needs a bit of cleaning. I'm betting this might work well.

Thank you very much for stopping by.  A gallon of Picrin may last several years. You do not need much to remove stains.

Also never heard of Picrin before Roy, but where do you get it? Do you have to go to a distributor on the internet or do stores carry this? I would ask my dry cleaner but he probably won't share his supplier!

A friend's Mom had those cheesy custom plastic furniture covers in her living room.  Due to it's light fabric and carpet color we were never allowed to even walk through that room as kids.  A little Picrin in the home may have opened new horizons on those rainy days of playing Hide & Seek.  Thank you Roy & Dolores!

It was nice of Kathy to mention this blog on her weekly list.  Use the link above if you wish to check the locations of distributors.  Picrin is used by cleaning professionals and is not a product that you would normally find in retail stores.
