Pay it Forward!

I just LOVE this and it's never a bad idea to "Pay it Forward"! I think it's GREAT to do the extra "little things" because it's those "little things" that really matter the most in the whole grand scheme of things!! Thanks for reminding us!

Sometimes you just need a little way to say "Atta Girl" either to yourself or to someone in your life.  Here are some things that cost almost nothing but may make a huge difference in your and some else's life today:

  1. A new tube of chapstick - your lips will be ready to utter a thank you and a kiss (if appropriate).
  2. An ice cream cone - because it is winter, this would be a real treat.  No one thinks to just drop into Baskin and Robbins when it is minus several degrees.  You will make yourself and the server happy.
  3. A movie ticket on cheap Tuesday - okay with taxes, it may be over $5.00 but not by much and you will have about 90 to 120 minutes of escape into an on screen adventure.
  4. A sandwich from a bakery.  They are often cheap and better than in a restaurant.
  5. Leave an extra $5.00 tip at breakfast - because you can make yourself feel good and the breakfast server happy.  Remember, the servers at breakfast work harder than those at dinner but because the meal is cheaper at breakfast, so is the tip.  Always over tip a breakfast server.
  6. A roll of Lifesavers (or two or three) because you can share them, they keep and everyone remembers eating Lifesavers as a kid.
  7. Paying for the coffee for the guy in the car behind you.  By the time he or she finds out that their coffee is paid for, you will be gone.  It will just make you feel so good.
  8. A few stamps.  Now you can address a letter to your loved one - in fact you can buy a $1.00 card and the stamp and send your love through the mail.  Everyone loves getting something in the mail that is personal and NOT a bill.
  9. A book that is in the sale bin or on line and under $5.00.  Just because it is cheap does not mean it is not good reading.  In fact, take you $5.00 to a book sale and you can get a small bag of paperbacks for the beach.  Go at the end of the day, don't be too selective, and that small bag may just be a huge shopping bag.
  10. Something that you get or give just on impulse - a hug is a a huge reward.
It is not the size or the value of the reward but the recognition for doing the right thing.

I used to work for a bank and helped managed a national franchise of branches located within supermarkets spread across the country. We rarely if ever had the opportunity to meet some of the staff in person since I was based in Upstate NY and some of the branches were in Washington, Utah, Colorado, Indiana etc.

One thing that we'd do for recognition (similar to your ice cream idea above), is call the branch toward the end of their work day. We'd tell them to go out into the store aisles and buy ice cream and all the toppings they wanted and to make the most decadent ice cream sundaes they could imagine. And then....

...wat them in sight of their customers. When customers asked what was going on we told our staff to tell them that the Bank thinks that they are absolutely great and they want everyone to know about it. Not only did it become a fun and spontaneous recognition event (not to mention very inexpensive) but it brought more bank brand awareness to the store shoppers.
