I recently started a cleanse/detox to help pinpoint all the digestive issues ive been having. Lyn Gynet-Recitas wrote this book (The Plan) and I think she may be on to something.. Obviously. Its all about the inflammatory responses our bodies have to certain foods base on our individual body chemestries. For example, tomato sauce may cause severe heart burn for one person and cause no issue for someone else. It's all about the reactivity with the foods you come into contact with. Makes complete sense! What works for one person wont necessarily work for another. Ive battled with severe pain, nausea and bloating for years now and have refused to accept the diagnosis of IBS I've received over and over. IBS is what the doctor tells you you have when he's eliminated all other options. it must be IBS Ive been told several times! And while I do have IBS symptoms, I needed to understand what was causing my body to have those symptoms. It doesnt just happen. Its something Im doing or eating repeatedly thats causing it Something's gotta give. So thats how it started! Its been miserable but no pain, no gaint!
Its basically resetting your palate and learning to listen to your body's reactions to different foods by introducing them in to your diet one at a time. Its like figuring out a baby's food allergies once they start eating solid foods. Brilliant comparaison if I may say so myself! (i just came up with that!)
She calls it the Anti-Diet. Ummm its a total diet Lyn, but this one is worth it. 20 days isnt too long is it?? See article below explaining her take on it.
Let’s start with some basics. Aging is a state of inflammation and systems start to slow down. In addition, as we age, digestive enzyme production slows down. We start to produce less stomach acid and saliva all of which aid digestion. The foods we used to be able to break down easily when we were younger become more difficult to digest. These foods have now become trigger foods and sensitivities and affect multiple systems that alter weight and health.
The immune system’s response to an inflammatory diet diverts the body’s energy from healing and repair and allows whatever is latent in our genetic makeup to “kick up” whatever is chronic (arthritis, migraines, depression) and worsen.
Chronic inflammation exacerbates and hastens the aging process because it floods tissues with free radicals and promotes the destruction of normal cells. Chronic low-grade inflammation contributes to the aging process, and research shows that it is a major contributor to the aging of the cardiovascular and nervous system. Inflammation is now recognized as one of the key risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and stroke and cognitive and neurological disorders.
Many systems come into play with a reactive food and this causes the domino effect that we usually associate with getting older – think expanding waistline, declining energy or health.
Ive attached a list of the most reactive foods that may be causing inflammation in your body.
Great book to go through.
