Do you have Realtor PTSD?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with iBuy Realty: Rethink. Real Estate.

As I speak to and train hundreds of Realtors, I notice that a lot of them have PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). The PubMed Health definition of PTSD is: Post-traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you've seen or experienced a traumatic event that involved the threat of injury or death.

This disorder for Realtors might not result in death, but injury? What about financial and/or mental injury? If you are a Realtor and went through the recession(2008 to 2011), the chances of you having PTSD is likely to be affecting your business in 2013.  Do you have Realtor PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)?

Just like a solider that went off to war, what is your state of mind? How do you view the real estate industry? What do you say when asked about the housing market? Are you negative? Are you positive? Like a soldier that went off to war, how are you functioning now that things are back to normal?

Let me tell you, a lot of Realtors are experiencing the same symptoms as a soldier that went off to war. Real Estate Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is real! Some Realtors can’t shake what the recession did to their business and/or their personal life/finances. They keep talking about what they use to do or what they use to have and how much money they use to make. If you are doing this, you have Realtor PTSD!!

Well, if nobody hasn't told you, the real estate market today is statistically better than it was pre-recession(before 2007) when most of us experienced some of the BEST years of our real estate career. Yes, 2013 numbers are up, inventory is low, buyers are buying, and sellers are selling. In Houston, Texas last month over 5,000 houses sold in an average of 3.7 months. Last year this time, the average house sold in 7.2 months. Statistically, our market is on fire!!!

So, how is your business? Are you closing deals? Are you experiencing success in 2013 per the jaw dropping statistics I just mentioned? If not, what are you doing wrong? Or, are you still blaming the industry? Are you still blaming the mortgage industry? Or, maybe you are experiencing Realtor PTSD and its affecting your business? Whatever your excuse, the real estate industry is peaking right now. We are at the infancy of potentially seeing the BEST real estate industry EVER!!

Get rid of your excuses! Shake off the Realtor PTSD! It’s a GREAT time to be in real estate right now. Nobody cares about your old stories and how much money you use to make. Get over yourself!! Today is a NEW day and real estate has a new face.  What does that mean? You actually have to be an expert in your field! You actually have to know what the hell you are talking about! You actually have to meet buyers/sellers at their individual point of need due to their having access to excess information via the internet. You actually have to embrace the technology that you ignored and discounted because you considered it a fad. Furthermore, you actually have to upgrade YOU!! Evolved or Die….
