I had a wonderful time with my family at the Blazer game the other night, that was, until after the game, when my nine year old daughter thought this out and finally out smarted me.

Since my daughter was young, I've always told her she was adopted from a monkey family that we met at the zoo. The zoo had too many monkeys and that we felt sorry for her and brought her home to live with us. You will see where this story comes into play a little later.

I've been to a few blazer games this year with the family, but I will be the first to admit I don't mind looking at the Blazer dancers, they are not hard on the eyes...at all. But, in the past 4 games I've been to, they have been missing in action and in their place have been the 12 year old junior blazer dancers. (NOT THE SAME!)

Well last night, the blazers were on national TV and the Blazer dancers showed up, I guess to get their national coverage. Well my daughter leans over and whispers in my ear "There you go daddy older cheerleaders for you to look at." Was I this obvious? I thought it was funny and so did my wife and dad.

Well, later that night on the way home, I had to ask why she said it. She said, "I know you like them and was complaining that they haven't been there." I had to defend myself, I said, "Well they are pretty and dad likes looking at pretty girls." That is when she SET ME UP! She said, "Are you saying I'm not pretty?" I said, "Well that's different, you are nine and my daughter."

She at that point screamed with delight, "I KNEW IT! I told you I was your daughter! You just admitted it!" I knew I was in trouble, I had been set up! This was her plan from the beginning and I fell for it. I was outsmarted by a nine year old and there was nothing I could do but smile. I wasn't ready for it. I thought maybe when she was sixteen, but not nine!

So, to my daughter, sleep lightly, daddy is plotting his revenge.

Hi Todd:  You know, your litle angel has been plotted against you... waiting to get even... from that stuff you pulled on her this past Christmas or Thanksgiving... whenever it was.  She finally got you.  Cool for her !  Girls Eventually Rule !

She's a smart cookie, your daughter. Good for her for outwitting her dad.  Probably not the first time, and definitely not the last. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Todd,  What a clever (and beautiful) little girl!  My daughter tricked me in admitting there is no Santa Claus in a very similiar way...starting with the tooth fairy and then--gotcha!  Your monkey family story is adorable: I always told my daughter she came from the Comedy Store because she is so funny.  Sounds like you're going to be on your toes from now on!  Cheers, Harley

Todd,

Great story! Let me tell you how it works...how good a job we do raising our children as their primary teachers will be evident by how early an age they become smarter than us!!! Nine is doing a good job!!! LOL, Thanks,   Fran

Todd - Okay, I admit that I think your sense of humor is a bit off center, but it certainly seems to have accelerated your 9 year old's critical thinking beyond the 9 year old level!  Sounds like your family has a lot of un together.  How cool that you guys actually talk to your children in the car instead of handing out individual headsets and monitors to watch videos

Michael - Hey, they are pretty and they want us to look - lol

Tamara - I'm not ready and I know that! My guns haven't been cleaned yet - lol

Karen - She seems to be always plotting against me and that little evil laugh she gets usually gives her away, but this time she managed to do it without laughing.

Lisa - She has tried in the past, but I usually figure it out before she is able to pull one over my eyes. This time she succeeded and she enjoyed every minute of it!

Virginia
- Yes, Yes she did!

I hate to tell you,Dad, but it has only started. Get used to it.  In a few years, she will probably have you going in circles and you won't even know it.  Aren't kids great???

Jesse or Kathy - She seems to be as quick as her father and maybe getting quicker.

Kay - But, they shouldn't be...They also seem to have more energy then us also!

Bob - I'm glad you could laugh at my expense, that seems to be how it works!

Bonnie - Oh, I'll know it...I just won't like it!

Todd - This is priceless....fantastic story and very smart girl indeed! Way to go, winning one for the chics!! I like it. I recall a story similar with my daughter approaching the age of wanting to shave and asked permission from the backseat of the car while I was driving. She was ten and anxiously wanting to start shaving her hairy legs.. (so she thought) and I told her no and politely proceeded to say, not until your 12 years old. Her comment was, 'Just great, I will be a hairy Monkey by then"....I never laughed so hard...so needless to say, we ran with that theme and threw her a birthday party all around monkeys and jungle theme..like a zoo!!  Now 16 years old she gets it...it's not all what it's cracked up to be, something boys don't know much about!! Have a great night! Thanks for the smile.

I'm glad Jason highlighted this, because I need to know what to expect going forward.  I have a very smart 5 year old.  I can't imagine what she'll be like at 9!  (We used to call her monkey girl because she climbed on everything.  Come to think about it, it's amazing our little daredevil ever made it to 5).

Todd,

Kids tend to be much smarter than we give them credit!  If only we could figure out how their minds worked!  LOL

Brigita - I would rather figure out how they can have so much energy! I get tired just watching them and wish I could just have one week with their energy level.
