A couple weeks ago, my office’s owner decided it was a good time to paint a couple of the offices in the building as well as the hallway and the public areas. At the last moment, I decided that now was the time to change my office as well!
When the office was first renovated many years ago, limited funds forced the owners to provide laminate countertops attached to two adjoining walls as desks – a good, affordable option. The issue I had with it was based on Feng Shui. Granted, I am no Feng Shui expert, but I know that having your back to the door is the most vulnerable and least powerful position in the room.
It was time to seize the opportunity to do some demolition and fix my office’s Feng Shui shortcomings. I left my officemate’s side the way it was, but took a saws-all to my part of the counter. Then I painted the walls what I learned later was a very “on trend” color – a week later I visited the Southern Living Showcase Home and the cabinets in the Entertaining Kitchen were the exact same color. Who knew I was such a trendsetter?
Next I brought a desk and shelving from home and VOILA! Now I get to face the door and have my supplies to my side and not over my head (undoubtedly a Feng Shui nightmare!) The side benefit to the whole thing was that somehow I gave the office about 20 more SF. At least it feels that way! Here is the semi-final result – still have some trim to replace…
but I love it and can feel productivity soaring and that calendar on the wall filling up with hot appointments and exciting new opportunities already!
