CristWell I am truly shocked. This kind of thing simply NEVER happens so this is the source of my shock and surprise.

How could this be? Really it is so scary that I might just be losing faith

We have a politician - lots of them actually - who are saying something this week that is the opposite of what they said last week.

Exactly as predicted by me, passage of Florida's incredibly weak Property Tax Amendment seems to have lead to the likes of Governor Charlie Crist - a man who said "this is just a start" as he campaigned relentlessly to get the amendment passed last week - now saying that the prospect of further cuts seems "less certain".

Crist says he wants to "consult with business leaders" to find the smartest approach.

And if all that wasn't enough, we are also hearing the first rumblings from cities and counties about rate INCREASES - in other words, they have the power to simply ignore the new legislation by raising their millage rates.

My fear was always that we'd get a "OK, you approved it and now we're done with it for a long time" approach from Florida's Government. Unfortunately I think I am going to be proved right.

Isn't politics an interesting thing to watch. Trying to make sense out of it all is often more than I can handle!

They promise us the world and give us a few grains of sand.  It's unreal how they can get by with things like this.

Mary - they get by with it because the voting public allows them to - time and time and time again

SEAN - the only truly amazing thing here is that people will be shocked.

JOEANN - you should come join the Silent Majority Group. Lots of politics.

Simon- And what really gets me is that here they voted to raise taxes in our town. Businesses and realtors were against it but it was the residents who said go ahead and increase the taxes so we can keep all the services. Services do not need to get cut, just learn to spend wisely. What gets me is what did they do with all the surplus they made from this past building boom and hot real estate market?

Simon, This is exactly why I voted NO.  I think an IQ test should be required before one is allowed to vote.

Katerina - I'd love to be able to say I'm surprised, but I'm not.

Dan - and IQ test would be a wonderful thing. This is why I was telling people on the show to vote no and why I would have voted no if I'd of had a vote!

I think whether Amendment 1 passed or not, the legislature and Governor would say they are done.  If it didn't pass, they would say "We tried."  Actually it might not be bad if Amendment 1 gets challenged in the courts, then the legislature would have egg on its face, and the people might fight for some real reform.  I think the next step is a citizen backed initiative to fix the remaining tax problems.

That's too bad. I am so sorry for your situation. It's hard to figure politicians isn't it?
